Principal Simpson's Message

Greetings PRM Families,

March brings signs of spring through the sun shining, warmer weather, and the laughter of children outdoors. We will also start to notice familiar animals, birds chirping, and definite spring showers. As we prepare to close out the third quarter and welcome the fourth quarter, we will continue to work diligently to provide high-quality Montessori instruction, while also integrating technology within the school day.

Spring conferences for the third quarter will be held on Thursday, March 9th from 4:00pm-7:00pm. We hope that you’re able to secure a preferred conference time to discuss your child’s progress. We will be sending home third-quarter report cards in Wednesday folders, on March 15th. Please continue to nurture and build a strong partnership with your child’s teacher, so we can continue to improve children's academic achievement, social competencies and emotional well-being.

After we return from Spring Break, our 3-6 grade students will be gearing up for our Ohio State Testing Cycle which will be throughout the month of April and beginning of May. This assessment is a great opportunity for our students to shine and showcase the wealth of knowledge they have gained throughout their academic year. The teachers will be working to expose them to the OST platform to support their success and confidence on this assessment as we get closer to the testing dates. You may also familiarize yourself with the assessment by going to Practice Tests - Ohio State Testing Portal. If you have any questions about the assessment please feel free to reach out to your child’s teacher and they will be more than happy to explain more.

Lastly, we need your help. We have a large number of students coming to school late every day. Please do your best to make sure that your child is at school by 7:45am. Every minute counts. Our school social worker Allie Quinter will be reaching out to families to support them with resources and to create Attendance Intervention Plans.

Love,

Principal Simpson

3-6 News

March has arrived! Along with the rest of the school, we kick off March with Read Across America Day and the Read-A-Thon and end it with Spring Break. Please remember to send your student in weather appropriate clothing each day as the weather still tends to change drastically from one day to the next. All 3-6 classes go outside before 10am, with some going out as early as 8:10am. As the outdoor education special returns for Kindergarteners this month, be sure that students have shoes that are alright to get dirty. Consult your student and/or teacher if you don't know which day is their outdoor education day. Also, make sure they have sneakers for PE day, even if they wear rain boots to school that day. Illness is still spreading a lot, so reinforce with your student about appropriate hand washing and keeping their hands away from their face, particularly their mouths. We, as teachers, are constantly reminding them of this, but your support is also greatly appreciated! Happy almost spring!

6-9 News

The 3rd graders are practicing for the Ohio State Test in both math and ELA. 1st graders are preparing for Every Child Reads in their classrooms using different tools provided by the reading specialists. Outdoor Education is beginning again next week. Students will have the opportunity to work with IMAGO in the garden preparing it for spring. The school store fundraiser has been a success across classrooms allowing teachers to make selections for materials in their communities.

9-12 News

The 9-12 team enjoyed PRM's celebration of Black History Month. The performance "When Marian Sang" from the Cincinnati Opera was amazing and the classroom doors created by the students are inspirational. The students are finishing up our field trips to the Taft Museum to see the Kerry and C. Betty Davis Collection of African American Art. Coming up in March, 5th graders are heading to the Zoo, for an overnight trip on March 2nd. Lastly, Camp Kern is scheduled for the 6th graders on April 5th, 6th, and 7th. More details are coming soon. Don't forget that parent-teacher conferences are scheduled for March 9th. Make sure to schedule a time to meet with your child's teacher to discuss their progress this year. Thank you for all you continue to do to support our learning communities. Please reach out to your homeroom teachers if you have any questions.

PTO & Foundation Hub News

Updates from our Parent Organizations:

PTO/Foundation

Spring is just around the corner! Thanks to everyone for finding something to participate in this month. As a part of the CPS “Be Present” campaign we encourage you to pick one way to show up for your student’s school, and this month there are many possibilities. Thank you to all who participated in our annual Silent Auction last month. And a special thanks to Laura Schatz Morales and Ally Richer for leading the charge.

This week kicks off our 5th annual Read-a-thon in conjunction with Read Across America Day on Thursday, March 2nd and in partnership with CPS’s March initiative “Read Across CPS”. The goal at PRM is for all students to read 7 consecutive days and to track and log their reading. All reading minutes as well as any funds raised can be turned in through the collection envelopes or can be submitted online at www.prmrocks.org/readathon. Please encourage your child to read… you can read to them or show them that you too are reading. All reading counts!

Congrats to these twelve students who had the top designs in the inaugural bookmark design contest: Michael Lie, Hannah Durrenberger, Peter Kauffman, Madeline Pigg, Hannah Albright, Quinn Gailar, Foster Russell, Emily Mansfield, Eleanor Marlow, Charlotte Sorenson, and Maia Stottzfus. The winning bookmark was chosen from 115 submissions and was designed by 4th grader, Isabel No and is currently being printed so that all students will receive one.

We know that we do a lot of fundraisers throughout the year and we really do encourage families to choose in which (if any) they participate. You’ve seen info come home about the “school store” and our spring flower sale is coming this month as well. The money we raise goes fully into the school to support its staff and students, and enhances learning beyond the minimum requirements. Some of the projects we support include Outdoor Education - a staff person and infrastructure. Professional Development for staff that they would normally have to pay out of pocket. Tangible items such as a preschool storage shed, playground equipment shortage, and cello storage racks.

If you are curious about how decisions get made, please come to the next meeting. Foundation and PTO meet together on the same evening and meetings are open to all. It’s another great way to “be present”. Meetings are on the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 6:00pm in the school cafeteria. Our next meeting will be on March 8th. Foundation starts immediately following PTO.

The PRM PTO is looking for volunteers as yet another way to “be present” and show your support. On conference day, Thursday, March 9th, the teachers have a full day of school followed by conference meetings with families. To show our appreciation, for their hard work on this long day, the PTO will be feeding our staff. To help with this meal, please click on the following link: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/20f0a44a8ae22a1fa7-tacos#/

There are also volunteer roles that we know will be available for next school year. Please check the flier in your students’ Wednesday folder for full details but some open roles include: PTO Vice President, PTO Financial Secretary, LSDMC Parent Representatives (2), Room Liaison Champion, and Spirit Wear Champion.

Boosters

Congratulations to all of our PRM basketball teams that completed their seasons in February. A huge thank you to all of our coaches, the parents, custodians, administrators and Mr. T for being a part of the support system that helped make this season possible. And congrats to our PRM cheer team for being present and working hard to create a great atmosphere at so many of our home basketball games.

Registration for some spring sports is ongoing until Sunday, March 5th at midnight. In the spring we offer four sports; volleyball, soccer, track and field and baseball (including tee-ball and coach pitch). If you are still looking for a sport, please check out www.prmrocks.org/athletics and email prmathletics@gmail.com with any questions.

ILT

The Instructional Leadership Team meets twice monthly at PRM on Monday afternoons. ILT will meet this month on March 6th and 20th at 2:45pm at PRM.

ILT discusses important issues that affect our students during their school day. The results from the Panorama Survey were discussed and most students at PRM felt supported and families felt PRM was a safe learning environment. These were just a few of the results gleaned from the surveys.

LSDMC

The LSDMC met virtually in February but will return to in-person meetings in March on Wednesday, March 8th at 3:00pm at the school. Everyone is welcome to attend.

In February, the LSDMC followed up with board members requesting an adjustment to the online enrollment process for incoming families. This adjustment asks that families of students transferring to PRM have the option (if they so choose) of continuing in their traditional path of study by offering acceptance at a neighboring school that is under-enrolled (Woodford, Silverton, or JP Parker). We are still awaiting action from the board members.

Each year in the spring, the LSDMC completes tasks assigned by the district including budget approval and evaluation of our school's Community Learning Center Lead Agency. We will begin to review these items at our March meeting. In addition, for those families involved in aftercare at the school, please be on the lookout for a survey regarding your satisfaction.

Equity Group

The next meeting for the Equity Group is a don’t miss event taking place on Thursday, March 23rd from 6:30-7:30pm called Voices of PRM: 7 years of image making by Missy Kyrlach. We hope you will join us for art, discussion and food. Childcare will be provided. Questions contact Amanda Bennett amandaabennett@gmail.com or Missy Kyrlach mkyrlach@gmail.com.
