Happy New Years!!

The first semester is done and we have all accomplished so much!! Students have excelled in your classes, Reps have loved on their schools and Vouchers DID NOT PASS!

This coming semester we have elections coming up. There are state representatives and senators up for election, along with school board trustees and municipal positions. Every election counts. Every election is important. We want good public education candidates. We want someone who loves their neighborhood school, who visits the school and knows what's going on in the school. We want elected officials who are cheerleaders for good public education legislation like no vouchers, better teacher pay, better school funding and a better testing accountability system.

Statewide election dates

March 5, 2024: Primary
May 28, 2024: Primary runoff
November 5, 2024: General election

Also, a reminder of our challenge this year:

We have a challenge for you this year! As you know school choice is in abundance right now and we want to really show parents what your school is like inside the classroom. So the challenge is...for every athletic, band, spirit post you create on socials, do a post on something going on in a classroom. The classroom work is so important to share and show because the staff work hard to put together amazing activities to help their students learn the curriculum. The class work is so impressive, why not brag!!

Commentary: We will see more educational programs vanish and more budget cuts unless we vote for officials who support public schools.

#RootEdColoniesNorth

In December, Valero joined the CFP Foundation and ESPN to debut the "Touchdowns for Teachers" program where a $1,000 grant was awarded to eight San Antonio teachers for every touchdown scored at the 2023 Valero Alamo Bowl. Eva Sinha a Language Support Teacher (LST) at Colonies North Elementary in Northside ISD was one of those teachers. She plans to create a Cougar Cares Closet, where any student or staff member will have access to basic essentials to help them feel healthy, safe and that they belong. Eva says, "Students need Maslow before they can Bloom. We hope to build a culture of trust and community, one small act of kindness at a time".
