9.5.25 Family Message
Greetings Gearity Families:
We hope you are able to join us tonight for the Ice Cream Social from 6-8 pm on the playground. The ice cream is free and the opportunity to meet other members of our school community is priceless. We hope you can assist with passing out ice cream or with helping bring the chairs and tables in after the event ends.
Please be mindful of students missing school. We currently have about 10% of our students who have missed 10% or more of the school year so far and that meets the definition of being Chronically Absent. The state of Ohio requires us to track chronic absenteeism and if too many students meet the threshold at the end of the school year we can see a reduction in our school report card ratings. ALL absences count toward chronic absenteeism including illnesses, family vacations on school days, and appointments. Please schedule appointments outside school hours when possible and review the health guidance below to decide if your child should come to school or stay home sick. We do not want ill students to infect their classmates but not all mild symptoms require a student to stay home. Families of students who miss too many days of school may be required to meet with our school social worker to develop an attendance improvement plan. Our goal is to have all of our students master the content standards for their grade level and it a challenging goal when students regularly miss school.
Permission slips have been given to students to participate in the Heights Homecoming Parade. Join us as we march in the parade on September 12th. We will be celebrating 100 years of Heights High with a Mardi Gras Party theme. Student council will be helping decorate our parent float which will be a birthday cake and all student participants will get party masks. We are asking that participating families return the permission form by nest Thursday. We will meet at Fairfax Elementary at 5:00 to start the parade. The parade ends at the high school around 6:00pm Help us celebrate Heights High!
The Father's Walk/Donuts with Dads is September 18th. The Father's Walk is sponsored by the Cuyahoga County Fatherhood Initiative. From 8-9 am we will have donuts, juice and coffee for all of the fathers or father figures (grandfather, uncles, step-fathers, or older brothers) who bring their students to school on the 18th. Weather permitting, the event will take place on the playground. We always have a great turnout and hope you can join us!
Picture Day: Picture day is September 15th. I have linked the order information below.
PTA: Please consider joining the PTA! The PTA helps sponsor community building activities like the Ice Cream Social and our two book fairs so the work is an important component of our school program. If you can't attend our regular meetings you can still sign up to help with specific events.
