5th Grade Band/Orchestra

Hello 5th grade Band & Orchestra families,

We have now had 3 classes of 5th grade band or orchestra at Pembroke, Quarton and Pierce! The kids are super excited to start this new journey and to get those instruments home to explore! During the first few weeks, we take our time learning the daily routine, understanding how to care for our instruments, and getting to know each other. No worries if your child does not have their instrument or book just yet. My goal is for everyone to have their instrument, book and accessories by the end of next week (Sep 19).

Books may also be purchased from your rental store or online (Amazon, etc.). Be sure to get the correct instrument. Pictures of the books are below for accuracy.

Needed Accessories

Orchestra - shoulder rest (violins/violas), rock stop (cellos/basses)

Band - reeds (clarinet/saxophone size 2.5)

(*Note* - Some accessories like valve oil and cork grease are provided with the rentals or I can provide it when needed at school.)

Important Dates

There will be two concerts at the end of the year, one for all of the bands (May 6, 2026) and one for all of the orchestras (May 13, 2026). Both concerts will be at Seaholm HS. I will give more information and reminders as we approach those dates.

As a reminder, our classes will meet on every A (Mondays) and C (Wednesdays) days. Some A and C days also fall on rotating Fridays so I will see the kids 2-3 days a week. I will also communicate separately to each school group at the beginning of each week our weekly objectives. Feel free to save this email for future reference.
