SB 19
Are you wondering what is going on with SB 19, math intervention plans, and required math acceleration? So are we! ODEW has not provided districts with the promised guidance document at the time of this publication. For now, the best thing we can do is to continue to support our students who are struggling in math, especially if we know they scored at the limited level on a their previous math OST/EOC. We will have conversation and make concrete plans once we have further guidance from the state.
Gifted Services & Office Hours
Gifted Services: Meet Lauren Webb
Ohio requires districts to provide gifted coordination services. Following the May ballot issue, Fairfield City Schools transitioned from a full-time, in-house coordinator to a partnership with a gifted services consultant from Hamilton County ESC.
Lauren Webb, our new coordinator has created the Fairfield City Schools Gifted Services Resource Hub to make information and support easy to find. The site includes guidance on gifted identification, service models, instructional supports, acceleration, compliance, and professional learning. She looks forward to partnering with teachers to help ensure gifted learners have appropriately challenging opportunities to grow and succeed.
Quarterly Gifted Office Hours
Looking for a way to collaborate with a GIS to earn HQPD hours? Lauren is hosting virtual drop-in sessions once each quarter. Bring questions about WEPs, gifted services, progress monitoring, HQPD requirements, or strategies for supporting gifted learners. No appointment is needed; please join during the time for your teaching level.

ODEW Writing Support
The following information was recently shared in a State Support Team 13 newsletter, and we thought it might be of interest for some of you:
Writing: A Lever for Reading Improvement
Supporting students’ writing abilities through the use of explicit instructional strategies in connection with the entire scope and sequence of the progression of skills boosts achievement within both sides of The Simple View of Reading (word recognition and language comprehension). Additionally, it is critical to cultivate a classroom community that prioritizes supportive collaboration throughout the stages of the writing process (Think/Plan, Write, and Revise).

Have You Discovered 'Reactions' in Outlook for Windows?
Instead of 'replying' to an email with "Thanks" or "Your Welcome!", you can use the new reactions feature in Outlook. When reading or previewing an email, simply hover over the 🙂 in the header of the email. Then choose the 'reaction' of your choice. The sender will be notified of your reaction, and we will save on server memory space since there is not another email created! Win/Win! Give it a try!

Holocaust & Genocide Memorial and Education Commission
The information below is taken directly from: From holocaust.ohio.gov:
Empowering Teachers to Teach Difficult History
The Ohio Holocaust and Genocide Memorial and Education Commission provides educators with the knowledge, tools, and confidence to teach about the Holocaust and other genocides with integrity, sensitivity, and historical accuracy.
About the Commission
Established by state legislation in December 2020, the Ohio Holocaust and Genocide Memorial and Education Commission includes 15 members appointed by the Governor. Under Ohio Revised Code Section 197.08, the Commission gathers and shares educational resources, promotes awareness of issues related to the Holocaust and genocide, and advises state officials on these topics.
Our Vision
The Commission envisions an Ohio where everyone can access Holocaust and genocide education, helping build a more informed and engaged society. It works to strengthen collaboration among organizations across the state, provide high-quality programming for students and teachers, and support efforts to memorialize the Holocaust and other genocides in every county.
Want to Check Out Your Building Report Card?
Access to district and building report cards can be found on the Ohio School Report Card page. The state also publishes its own report card and provides additional resources and technical documentation for traditional report cards, which can be found here.
