Week 23

Hard to believe that it is already February, the year is flying by and always seems to go faster after Winter Break. Dates for each school's Spring Picture Day are below. They are during the same week, but on different days.

With the end of the year approaching, I know that orders are beginning to come in as well for some. If possible, please let me or the office know when you can where you will be for next year.

The first week of our Favorite Tales and Rhymes theme is over Hen Tales. Our word of the week is tales. Our two hen stories this week will be The Little Red Hen and The Sky is Falling.

Vocabulary this week: helpful, tales

Photo cards: red hen, duck and goose, turkey and fox

Letters: Y, y, Z, z

Our math focus will to start to look at more several different patterns this week: AB, ABC, and AAB patterns.

For our calm down strategies, we are practicing the Bunny Breathing Strategy. Three quick inhales and one slow exhale.

Cold/Wet Weather

The school's cold weather policy will cancel school if road conditions are unsafe for travel OR the windchill is -15 degrees Fahrenheit. They will let us know the evening before, or by 6am the day of, if school is cancelled.

I keep hoping that if I use snowy backgrounds that we will finally get some measurable snow, that will be around for longer than a day.

With the weather getting very unpredictable, please dress in layers and a coat. We will go outside if it is above a feel like temp of 27 degrees Fahrenheit and it is not too wet/icy.

Please send with coats! Either in backpacks or worn. If they get hot, we can always put in their cubbies. That way they don't get too cold when we go outside.

Self-help and Fine Motor Practice

Please help encourage self-help skills at home. If you have time, have them practice of putting on their own shoes, coats, etc before going somewhere. In the classroom, these skills can help speed up transitions or if more than one student needs help, the more they know how to do the easier.

For fine motor skills; if you have junk mail at home, that would be great practice for them to just cut away on. Or if you don't want to worry about scissors at home, having them tear paper with their pincher fingers (thumb and index fingers). Junk mail has many uses to help with fine motor muscle building.

*IF you would like a fine motor packet, I can provide you with one. A fine motor packet has OT provided materials and tips that will help strengthen their muscles at home.
