Fun-d Run Tomorrow - October 2nd!
๐๐Get Ready to Have Some Fun-d Run Fun!
Join us this Friday, October 2nd for our exciting Fun-d Run! Weโd love to have families there to cheer on their runners and help make the morning extra special!
Families: Please gather outside the fence to cheer on your students. For safety, only registered volunteers will be allowed on the track and school grounds.
3rdโ5th Grade: 8:30โ9:00 AM
Kโ2nd Grade: 9:45โ10:15 AM
Bring your smiles, your cheers, and your best encouragement!
We hope to see you there! Letโs make it a FUN-d Run to remember!
One more CJES parent/guardian needed for Site Council!
We are looking for one additional parent/guardian to join our Site Council Team! Meetings will be held virtually, quarterly from 5:15-6pm. If you are interested, please email Michelle at mirowley@pps.net.
Denver at Bryant Crossing Guards!
A few Chief Joseph families who live east of Denver near Bryant have volunteered as crossing guards to get students safely across Denver in the mornings. One adult volunteer will help children cross Denver at Bryant from 7:45-7:55 each morning. If you walk or ride that route give them a shout out as you pass! If you feel your child is independent enough to walk or ride to school unaccompanied, know there will be a trusted adult to help them cross Denver safely. If you have other questions, are interested in volunteering for a crossing shift, or want to connect your walking student with one of ours, reach out and join our WhatsApp group. We will also post on WhatsApp if a shift isnโt covered or canceled because of bad weather.
Thanks!
๐ผ Counselors Corner
Iโm Ms. Molly (Molly Clark), the school counselor at Chief Joseph. This is my second year at Chief Joseph, and my 22nd year in the school counseling profession. It is a joy to be part of the CJES community. In my role, I have the opportunity to teach monthly lessons in all K-5 classrooms - this monthโs theme was kindness. I also offer various social skills groups, informal lunch groups, and individual check-inโs based on studentsโ needs. Typically a referral for a group or check-in will come from the teacher and parent combined, but if you would also like to contact me regarding my support or any counseling related questions, please donโt hesitate to reach out via email molclark@pps.net or through ParentSquare. Iโm looking forward to another great year with our CJES family!
Attendance:
School attendance is very important. Did you know that students with good attendance are 4 times more likely to graduate high school than those who are chronically absent?
What you can do to support your child's attendance:
Set a regular bedtime and morning routine.
Lay out clothes and pack backpacks the night before
Donโt let your child stay home unless they are truly sick. Keep in mind complaints of a stomachache or headache can be a sign of anxiety and not a reason to stay home.
If your child seems anxious about going to school, talk to teachers, school counselors, or other parents for advice on how to make her feel comfortable and excited about learning.
Develop back-up plans for getting to school if something comes up. Call on a family member, a neighbor, or another parent.
Avoid medical appointments and extended trips when school is in session.
If you have any questions about your child's attendance or if you need resources for your family to help support school attendance, don't hesitate to call the main office for our School Counselor. We are here to support your family.

Each month we are required to complete emergency drills.
For the month of September we will have the following drills:
- Fire Drill
- Lockdown Drill
Schools in Oregon are required to practice a number of drills (monthly fire drill, twice a year earthquake drill) and in the first 2 weeks each school must conduct an lockdown practice drill.
On September 29th at 1:45pm we will practice a lockdown where we quickly get each student into a locked, safe space. It is important that in an emergency situation we are confident we know exactly what to do. Your student may come home and talk about the drill and we wanted our families to be aware. Please don't hesitate to reach out to us here at school anytime you have questions.
In September we celebrated kindness!
