Chelsey Margritz Named HPSEF Staff Member of the Month
Hershey Public Schools is proud to celebrate Chelsey Margritz, Preschool Teacher, as the latest Staff Member of the Month, a recognition voted on by staff, students, and parents of the district.
With nine years of teaching experience, Chelsey has made an impact at multiple grade levels including kindergarten, first grade, fifth grade, and now preschool. For the past three years, she has brought her passion and energy to the youngest learners at Hershey. Before joining our Panther family, Chelsey taught at McDonald Elementary and Eisenhower Elementary.
Chelsey holds a Bachelorโs Degree in Early Childhood Education and is a proud member of Kappa Delta Pi, an international honor society in education.
A Passion for Teaching and Connecting
Chelsey knew from a young age that she wanted to become a teacher. Inspired by educators who made a difference in her life, she now works to do the same for her students. โI want to be a positive role model and have a huge impact on kids' lives just like those teachers had on me,โ she shared.
One of her favorite parts of teaching is the lasting connections she builds. โI still have kids that I taught in Kindergarten, that stop by to say hi to me nine years later,โ Chelsey said. โSeeing them develop a love of learning is one of the greatest rewards of all.โ
Her approach to student engagement includes incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles, bringing humor and energy to the classroom, and even singing songs for nearly everything they do in preschool. She is especially proud of the academic games and personalized strategies she uses to keep students excited about learning.
Building Relationships That Last
Chelsey is intentional about creating a warm, welcoming environment where students feel safe to make mistakes, take risks, and grow. She emphasizes empathy, respect, and positive reinforcement. โWhen forming connections, I believe it is very important for me to share about my family and the mistakes I have made. Relating to them helps them to understand things in life better.โ
One standout story she shared was of a student she had the privilege of teaching three times throughout their school journey. โWatching them grow and overcome challenges has reminded me of why I do what I love.โ
Supporting the Whole School Community
Chelseyโs leadership extends beyond the classroom. She supports her colleagues through idea-sharing and active listening, and she works closely with parents to build strong school-home partnerships. She also serves as a Mentor for the TeamMates program, recognizing how crucial it is to support students at all stages of development.
A Glimpse Into Life Outside the Classroom
Outside of school, Chelsey enjoys time with her husband Josh, their two children Talan and Madison, and their dogs Maverick and Charlotte. She loves shopping for new classroom ideas, spending time outdoors, and enjoying walks with family and friends.
A fun fact? Chelsey once tried out for American Idol after graduating high school!
Her favorite quote sums up her approach to teaching:
โTeachers who put relationships first donโt just have students for one year; they have students who view them as โtheirโ teacher for life.โ โ Justin Tarte
Grateful for the Recognition
Chelsey shared that she was surprised to win the award, saying, โI teach with so many amazing teachers!โ Still, the recognition means a great deal: โI truly feel so blessed, and I am so thankful to be at a school where parents and staff support me and help me grow.โ
Her final message to the school community is a simple yet powerful reminder:
โLetโs all continue to be supportive to one another this next month we have left of school! Building each other up and maintaining a positive attitude and morale is key to a successful learning environment!โ
Congratulations to Chelsey Margritz, a true role model and champion for our students and staff!
Spring is in the Air! ๐ธโ๏ธ
As we step into the month of May, we find ourselves in the home stretch of the school year! The days are warmer, the sun is shining longer, and our students are enjoying every moment of spring before summer break arrives.
While the weather continues to warm up, mornings can still feel a bit cool, and the temperatures can shift throughout the day. Please help your child dress in light layersโlike a sweatshirt or jacket in the morning that can be easily removed by afternoon.
As always, we are committed to keeping students safe and comfortable during outdoor play. Here are a few friendly reminders:
๐งฅ Layer Up: On cooler mornings (below 50ยฐ), a sweatshirt or light jacket is still recommended.
๐ Play-Ready Attire: Tennis shoes and comfortable clothes help students move safely and confidently during recess and P.E.
Thank you for your continued support as we enjoy these final weeks of school. Letโs make the most of this beautiful spring season together! ๐๐ธ
๐ท๐What Parents Need to Know about AimswebยฎPlus ๐๐ฑ
Spring Benchmark Assessment: AimswebยฎPlus (TKโ6)
As spring continues, students in Transitional Kindergarten (TK) through 6th grade will participate in important assessments that help monitor academic progress and guide instruction. One key assessment tool still ahead this school year is AimswebยฎPlus. Understanding this assessment can help you support your childโs educational journey.
๐ Assessment Dates:
-
AimswebยฎPlus: May 5โ9 (TKโ6)
AimswebยฎPlus: Monitoring Foundational Skills
AimswebยฎPlus is an assessment system that evaluates essential reading and math skills for students in kindergarten through sixth grade. It combines curriculum-based measures with standards-aligned assessments to provide a comprehensive view of each studentโs abilities.
The primary goals of AimswebยฎPlus are to:
-
Screen for learning gaps
-
Identify students at risk
-
Monitor student and group growth over time
Teachers use the data to better understand where each child is academically and to adjust instruction to meet individual needs. This ensures all students receive the appropriate level of support and challenge.
Supporting Your Child During Assessments
As a parent or guardian, you play a vital role in helping your child feel prepared and confident during assessment periods. Here are some helpful tips:
-
Stay Informed: Ask your childโs teacher if you have any questions about the purpose or format of the assessment.
-
Encourage a Positive Mindset: Remind your child that assessments are simply a way to show what theyโve learned and where they can grow.
-
Maintain Healthy Routines: Ensure your child gets plenty of rest, eats a good breakfast, and arrives at school on time during assessment days.
-
Partner with Teachers: Review your childโs results when available, and collaborate with teachers to support academic success.
By staying engaged and informed, you help set your child up for continued growth and success throughout the remainder of the school year.

๐Celebrating the Retirement of Amy Newton: A Heartfelt Farewell ๐
After six dedicated years of safely transporting students to and from Hershey Public Schools, Amy Newton, our treasured Daily Route Driver, will officially retire at the end of the 2024โ2025 school year. Since beginning her journey with Hershey in 2018, Amy has driven the same route every single dayโfaithfully greeting her students with warmth, laughter, and of course, a little music.
๐ A Calling Born From Love
Amyโs inspiration to become a school bus driver traces back to 1995, when her son was undergoing chemotherapy. With daycare options limited, Amy began driving a school bus so she could be with her childrenโbringing them along on the route, buckled in and safe. What started as a necessity became a calling that continued through the years and ultimately brought her to Hershey.
๐ถ Moments That Made It Special
When asked about her favorite memories, Amy fondly recalls mornings filled with singingโstudents joyfully serenading the bus ride to school. โI love to hear them sing and be happy,โ she says with a smile. Of course, no bus career would be complete without some humor.
๐ The Heart of Hershey
The most rewarding part of Amyโs time at Hershey has been the relationships sheโs built with students and families. โI love all of the kids and their families as if they were mine,โ she shares.
๐ฑ What Comes Next
Amyโs next adventure is both inspiring and excitingโsheโs currently building out a school bus into a full-time home and plans to travel the country living her dream. From wheels on the bus to wheels on the road, Amy is truly embracing her next chapter with courage and joy.
When asked what sheโll miss the most, her answer is simple and heartfelt: โSeeing the kids every day, listening to them sing, and watching them grow up and graduate.โ
๐ฌ Amyโs Message to the Panther Community:
โLive every day as if it was your last! Always smile and be happy. Donโt let anyone steal your sparkle.โ
๐ Join Us in Celebrating Amy Newton!
We invite all staff, students, families, and community members to celebrate Amyโs retirement and honor her incredible service to Hershey Public Schools.

Together, you make Hershey a truly special place for kids to grow and thrive. Thank you!
The Importance of Regular Attendance๐จโ
As the school year progresses, maintaining regular attendance is key to your childโs academic success. Consistent attendance not only helps students stay on track with their learning but also allows them to fully engage in classroom activities, build strong relationships with their peers, and develop essential social and academic skills. Missing just a few days can create gaps in understanding, making it harder for students to catch up.
Once your child has accumulated 10 or more unexcused absences, you will be asked to join Mr. Thomsen for an attendance meeting. This is a state statute that all school districts follow. Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Thrillshare Rooms (Parent-Teacher-District Communication Platform)๐ฑ๐ฌ
Hershey Public Schools utilizes Rooms, a tool for parent-teacher chat and classroom announcements. If you werenโt able to link your child, please email your teacher and they can get you added. Parents are encouraged to download the HPS Panthers App; once downloaded, parents will be able to toggle between the school app & rooms.
