Second Step BPU
Bullying Prevention Unit
What is Bullying?
Under Texas Education Code § 37.0832, bullying is defined as a significant act or pattern of acts directed at a student that exploits a power imbalance through written, verbal, physical, or electronic means. It must also result in harm, create an abusive environment, disrupt the educational process, or infringe on the victim's rights.
Second Step helps students to RECOGNIZE bullying as being mean on purpose, unfair, one-sided and with a power unbalance that you are unable to stop.
REFUSE: Use a calm, assertive voice to express your feelings and the need for the behavior to stop.
REPORT: Reach out to an adult and keep reporting until the situation stops
BYSTANDERS: Students will learn how they can help stop bullying by seeing something and saying something (in the situation or to an adult)
