About Ms. King

With 17 years in education, I have had the opportunity to teach several different grade levels, including kindergarten, 2nd grade, and 5th grade. Over the years, my passion has grown beyond academics and into helping students build the social, emotional, and behavioral skills they need to be successful both in and out of the classroom. I am also certified as a Behavior Interventionist, and I love learning more about social-emotional learning, trauma-informed practices, and brain-based education.

This is my fifth year serving as the Outreach Coordinator at MWES, and I truly love being able to work with students, staff, and families in this role. One of the things I value most is building strong relationships with families. I truly believe that we are better when we work together! My goal is to help create a supportive environment where students feel safe, confident, and capable while also learning the skills they need to grow, take ownership of their choices, and navigate the world around them.

Outside of school, life is always busy—in the best way! I spend most of my time with my fiancé, who many know as Sergeant Blake, with the Knoxville Police Department, and our four kids: Riley (16), Mason (14), Lydia (9), and our foster daughter, H (1). We love being involved in our community, spending time outdoors, and playing in the yard with our Golden Retrievers. A lot of our time is spent cheering on the kids at their extracurricular activities. I absolutely love watching them build friendships and memories through the wonderful teams and programs in our Knoxville community.

I am so thankful to be part of the MWES family and look forward to another great year working together to support our students!

Character Strong

Our District-Wide Social-Emotional program, Character Strong, is an evidence-based, multi-tiered solution designed to support whole child success. This program is integrated into Advisory classes, helping build a sense of community while developing essential life skills.

The aim of education is to prepare young people for success in all areas of life, including academic growth, college and career readiness, and overall life satisfaction. To achieve these goals, Character Strong focuses on three foundational outcomes:

A Sense of Belonging: Fostering an environment where every student feels valued and connected.

Improved Well-Being: Enhancing students' emotional health and resilience.

Increased Engagement: Encouraging active participation and investment in their learning and growth. By addressing these key areas, Character Strong helps lay the groundwork for students' long-term success and fulfillment.

Portrait of a Graduate

Knoxville CUSD 202 is proud to be leading the way in bringing 21st-century learning to life for all students. Together with our staff, students, and community, we are shaping a Portrait of a Graduate—a shared vision that reflects our collective hopes and aspirations for every learner.

This short video highlights our journey so far.

This year, educators are intentionally weaving the six durable skills from our Portrait into daily instruction. This work aligns with our Character Strong focus, supporting students in developing the knowledge, skills, and character needed to thrive both in and out of school. By practicing and strengthening these durable skills, our students are building the tools they need to succeed beyond graduation and in everyday life.

August Character Strong: Kindness Kickoff

Dear Families,

We are excited to tell you that we will be using PurposeFull People this year, a program that teaches skills to help students be successful in school and in life.

We believe that students should have safe, predictable places to learn where they feel included. Students should have healthy and helpful connections with teachers and classmates. They should also experience learning that will help them tackle challenges inside and outside of school. PurposeFull People is more than a set of lessons - it is a partnership between schools and families to create a place where students feel like they belong and learn skills that will help them be the best they can be!

The path forward is full of growth! We cannot wait to partner with you in this work…

● To teach students how to build strong friendships

● To work together to solve problems, big and small

● To grow skills for life

● To become PurposeFull People

"Bee Kind" Kindness Kickoff Challenge

As part of our Kindness Kickoff for Character Strong, we’re introducing a fun incentive to help encourage and recognize acts of kindness. Staff members nominate students for "Bee-ing" Kind. The nominated student becomes the "I" in "Kind," has their picture taken, and is recognized for their acts of kindness. The nominated students will also draw a number 1-100 and write their name on the corresponding number in the 100s chart. Once we fill a row (horizontally or vertically) those students in the full row will get to take part in an additional celebration!

September Character Strong Focus: Respect

This month’s focus is Respect. One way to think about Respect is “seeing value in all people and things & treating them with care.” Many people feel Respected in different ways. We hope this month inspires discussions with your family about what Respect means to you and how you can practice it together!

Portrait of a Graduate Connection

September Durable Skill focus: Communication

For September, our Character Strong focus is Respect, which ties directly to our adaptable skill of Communication. On our Portrait, communication is defined as:

Sharing ideas clearly by speaking, writing, or using body language. It means listening carefully, asking questions, and working with others to solve problems.

Knoxville students demonstrate this skill when they express their thoughts respectfully, listen to understand, and make sure everyone’s voice is heard.

Character Strong in Action!

Mr. Farquer's first grade class drew pictures of ways they can show kindness during our Kindness Kick-off for Character Strong!

Mrs. Farrell's second grade class singing along with the Kindness song in Character Strong. Ms. King taught a lesson about kindness and read the story, Kindness is my Superpower by Alicia Ortego

Ms. King visited Mrs. O’Neil’s third-grade class to read a story and lead a lesson on kindness. The class had a thoughtful discussion about the many ways they can show kindness to others. Students were challenged to find at least one kind thing to do each day—whether it’s offering a simple smile or hello, lending a helping hand, or finding another way to brighten someone’s day. After all, even a little kindness can go a long way!

Menus

EXTRA MILK

For students that bring a lunch from home and would like to purchase a milk, parents will need to add money to their child's lunch account. Milk is $0.50 for those purchasing it separately or if wanting a second milk. You can add money to your child's lunch account by visiting this website: LINQ Connect or sending money in an envelope to school. Please be sure to mark the envelope with your child's first and last name and grade if you are sending cash or check.

Regular lunch and breakfast still remain free for students at MWES and KJHS this school year.
