A Message From the Principal
Dear Mountain Vista Families,
What an amazing September we’ve had! A huge thank you to each and every one of you for your support of our annual STOMPede fundraiser. The energy on Fun Run day was contagious as students ran their hearts out, cheered each other on, and capped it all off with an unforgettable foam party!
We are so grateful for the generosity of our families and community. Together, we raised a grand total of $34,774! These funds are vital to our school, especially in maintaining our Teaching Assistant (TA) fund, which ensures we have appropriate supervision and safety at recess as well as support for learning in classrooms. Your contributions make a direct and meaningful impact on our students’ daily experience at Mountain Vista.
As we look ahead, we’d love to hear from you. One of our goals this year is to better understand the needs of our parents and guardians so that we can support you in helping your children thrive both academically and socially/emotionally. Please take a few minutes to complete this short survey: Parent/Guardian Survey. Your perspective is invaluable, and we are so thankful for your time and insight.
Another way we can work together to support students is by making sure they are here at school every day. Consistent attendance is one of the most important factors in student success. October 1 is also Colorado’s official student count day. The number of students present on this day directly impacts the amount of funding our school receives from the state. Thank you for helping us by ensuring your child is here and ready to learn on October 1.
As we close out September, I am filled with gratitude for our supportive community and excited for the months of learning, growth, and joy ahead. Thank you for being such an integral part of our Mountain Vista family.
With appreciation,
Megan Carkhuff
Principal
Safety Reminder for Arrival and Dismissal
Please use the designated crosswalks when walking to and from school. The way we pause, follow directions, and show care at these busy spots not only keeps everyone safe but also teaches our students how to move through the world respectfully.
Thank you for modeling these valuable habits for our kids each day!
From the Library
A few words from your friendly neighborhood school librarian:
One of the most important things that students learn in elementary school is to learn to read. Being able to read fluently and comprehend what they read will be a huge benefit to your kids as they go on to middle school and high school.
Each week when students come to the library, I challenge them to read more and bigger books. In particular, I have challenged the older grades (3rd, 4th, and 5th grades) to read 40 chapter books this school year, which is about one chapter book each week. Parents, no matter what grade your kids are in, please encourage and gently remind them to read each day, and then to read a little more.
