A Note from Principal Carlotta Simonds-Perantoni
The leaves on the trees seem to be quickly changing; autumnal equinox is just 4 days away. It has been a wonderful week of weather with crisp mornings and warm afternoons. Scholars have been enjoying their time outside during recess and individual class exploration.
Please consider sending in an old sweatshirt or sweater, with their name on it, that they can leave in their locker/cubby for cooler days. The Lost and Found continues to grow each day if your scholar is missing an item of clothing, please stop by and take a look.
Waits River Valley School continues this year with our OESU wide work with the Positivity Project, which discusses weekly character traits. Each classroom/advisory holds daily meetings with the scholars to discuss the Positivity Project. The themes can be found on our website.
On Thursday, K-8 scholars had the wonderful opportunity to attend the Tunbridge World's Fair Agricultural Education Day. Thank you to our parent/chaperones/volunteers who attended with us. Please remember, if you haven't already, you can volunteer in the school and outside of the school with us once you complete the process on the OESU website.
Today, our school wide fundraiser, Meadows Farm Fundraising, will be sent home with scholars. This school wide fundraiser helps to off-set the costs of Grandparents' Day and Winter Feast. There is information inside the packet which allows for sharing an online fundraising account for friends and family, near and far, to support the scholars in their fundraising efforts. If you have any questions, please contact Lisa Thompson at school: 802-439-5534.
Next Wednesday, September 23rd is Picture Day!! Order forms went home last week. Photos can be ordered online as well. We will hold a planned Evacuation Drill on Thursday, September 24th. Families can access our Emergency Preparedness Family Guide on our website.
A quick reminder that Wednesday, September 30th is an EARLY RELASE day at 11:30 AM, so that staff can take part in Professional Development.
Enjoy your weekend....fall is on its way!

News from the Health Office with Nurse Carla
Dates to Remember:
Little Rivers Mobile Health Clinic- 9/30, 10/14 ,10/28
Here are a few things I’d like you to keep in mind and help out with:
● Water Bottles: Please help students to remember their reusable water bottles. Many of the complaints that I see, can be helped with a good drink of water. A water bottle can help keep kids in class!
● Extra clothes: Please help students of all ages remember a second set of seasonally appropriate clothes. We work and play hard at WRVS, and you’d be amazed how often a quick change can help! The office can sometimes take gently used hand me down clothing items if you are ever looking to donate to our cause, please reach out first.
● Forms: If you have not returned health update forms, please try to get them filled out and returned asap. These forms really help me to collect required report data and most importantly meet and care for your student in the best way possible. If your children are participating in soccer, please make sure their up to date physical exam is on file. These are required before players can compete in games.
● Medication: Please contact me if you have not and your child needs to take medication at school. Please do not send medication to school with your child. If getting them here is a problem, please call me to discuss a plan.
● Sick Day Guidance:
- Student should be 24 hours without a fever and not taking fever reducing medicine.
- Student should be 24 hours without vomiting or diarrhea.
- Student’s symptoms should be improving and the student should be well enough to fully participate in their day.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to me at school during the school day at 802-439-5534 or via
email at carla.horniak@oesu.org.
Picture Day is next Wednesday, September 23rd; picture re-take day will be Tuesday, November 3rd. Order forms went home last week; please check your scholar's backpack and contact the school if you need another order form.
Photo packages can be ordered online or you can send in cash (exact amount as the photographers do not carry change) or check (made payable to "Geskus Studios").
