MT's purpose is to educate and empower students to become responsible citizens.
A Few Words From the Principal
We've had a wonderful first full week of school. This week we met with each grade level during WIN to discuss school expectations, grades, and showing kindness to our classmates. September is bullying awareness month and we would ask you continue to have those conversations with your students about how to appropriately respond to situations that may occur at school. We will also be doing activities in class to promote kindness at MTMS.
Important Dates
September 1 - Labor Day - NO SCHOOL
September 17 - Picture Retakes đź“·
September 24 - Early Dismissal at 11:12 - Parent/Teacher Conferences
September 25 - NO SCHOOL - Parent/Teacher Conferences
September 26 - NO SCHOOL
Sibling Pickup
We are so proud of our former MTMS students as they succeed at Mill Valley. If you have a MV student picking up a sibling, please remind them to discuss a designated pick up spot outside and communicate any change of plans in advance. MV students will not be allowed in the building after 3:05 dismissal.
School Fees
Many of you have noticed that student fees have yet to be posted to parent accounts. This is for various reasons due to the migration to the new Skyward Q system. We anticipate fees being posted in mid to late August, once students schedules are set. Thank you to everyone who has inquired and we will keep you informed!
Label Student Belongings
We know your students are well on their way to being responsible young adults, but sometimes items get lost (especially water bottles). Please try to label often misplaced items, even initials will help us reunite students with their belongings!
Visiting the School
A reminder that it is district policy that all adults requesting entry into the building (including signing out your student) are required to present their ID to the door camera before being granted entry to the building. Thank you for having your ID ready when you ring the bell!
Attendance Information
To ensure the safety of our students, please report all full-day absences (illness, etc.) and late arrivals due to morning appointments by 8:30 a.m. You may call the school attendance line at 913-422-5854 or use the online absence reporting form. The school will call to follow-up with unreported absences after 8:30. Students arriving tardy after 7:55 must enter through the front office doors (you are not required to escort late students inside, but if your student is late due to an appointment, please report it to the office so their attendance is appropriately marked or make sure they bring in an appointment note when they arrive).
Students are allowed ten (10) days of excused absences per school year without an accompanying doctor’s note. (This includes illness and “parent request” absences, which should be coordinated with the school in advance). Absences in excess of ten (10) without accompanying documentation will be considered unexcused. Missing a substantial portion of a day (three (3) or more class periods) shall be considered one "day."
You are not required to notify the office in advance if you will be checking a student out during the school day for an appointment. Please have your ID ready at the door, state your student's name and indicate you are checking them out, and complete the student check out inside and we will call your student from class at that time. Students will only be released to parent/guardians or emergency contacts listed in Skyward unless coordinated in advance with the school.
Good Things at MTMS
7th grade ELA
7th grade ELA classes have begun their Project Based Learning unit. Students are working to answer the driving question: How can we influence the way AI is used at MTMS?
This week, students identified what they already know and generated questions to guide their research and study of this complex issue.
Yearbook Recognition
Congratulations to the 2024-2025 Yearbook Staff at MTMS. Their book "Oh Snap...Caught in the Moment" Received a Superior Critique for Exemplary Work in Coverage, Writing, Design and Photography!
These two amazing students took it upon themselves to welcome everyone in!
2025 National Discovery Award Semi-Finalists Announced!
Congratulations to Sistine M. and Evie H. on being named semi-finalists for the Discovery Award by the Lowell Milken Center for Unsung Heroes:
From the Center: "We are excited to reveal this year’s talented semi-finalists, students whose powerful projects reveal the untold stories of Unsung Heroes from around the world. Their creativity, research, and storytelling shine a light on individuals who made a lasting impact yet remain absent from most history books."
