Dear Parents and Caregivers,

This was a wonderful and exciting week here at MMS. Congratulations to the class of 2025! It was fantastic to celebrate all of our seniors last night at graduation. We enjoyed having you here at Millis Middle School and we can't wait to see what your futures hold.

Our eighth grade students are in full celebration mode and were able to enjoy a beautiful day exploring Boston's State House and taking in a game at Fenway Park yesterday. A walk off home run capped off a fabulous day with a great group of kids. Tonight our grade eight students will have their dance from 6:30-8:30. Please be sure to let us know how you would like to release your child from the dance if they are leaving before 8:15pm on this form.

Our whole school was able to enjoy wonderful performance by Sheryl Faye about the life of Amelia Earhart and our older students also got to see a second performance about Anne Frank. A big thank you to MERIT for these enriching experiences for our students!

Next week we are looking forward to sixth grade taking their annual field trip to Camp Everwood on Monday. Grade eight will travel to TreeTop adventures for some outdoor fun and team building activities. On Wednesday, caregivers of all grades are invited to join us for our 2025 Student Showcase.

Thursday brings us to our grade eight completion ceremony at 10am. Families are welcome to bring up to 4 individuals per student. If you have a child who attends MHS or CFB, please be sure to reach out to their schools to have them dismissed to attend our ceremony or for our students to attend their Grade Five ceremony at 1:30pm. Please feel welcome to call us at 508-376-7014 or message us at msattendance@millisschools.org. Some families have expressed interest in dismissing their eighth graders after the completion ceremony, which is absolutely fine, please be sure to communicate that dismissal plan to our front office prior to the ceremony. We will have a lovely outdoor luncheon/cookout for students after the ceremony.

This newsletter includes summer reading and school supply lists for your easy reference over the summer. Students need to select and read one of the summer reading books. We will have a special celebration for students who read all SEVEN of the summer reading selections.

As we look ahead to next school year, please remember to sign up for bus registration and fall sports now! Securing your spot early helps us plan for a smooth start in September.

Incoming Student & Parent Orientation Night: Mark your calendars for August 21st at 6 PM for an orientation night where incoming students and parents can see the building and learn more about our fabulous school community.

Grade 8 Field Trip to State House and Fenway Park

Grade 8 had a great field trip into Boston on Wednesday. First stop was the State House, where they toured then had a meet and greet with State Representative James Arena-DeRosa and Senator Rebecca Rausch. This was followed by lunch on Boylston Street before heading to Fenway Park to take in a Red Sox game. The trip ended in a victory for the Sox with a walk-off homerun in the bottom of the 9th!

Grade 7 - Outsiders

Seventh graders have finished reading The Outsiders and students were invited to dress up as Greasers and Socs. Thank you to Mrs. Wendi Cantoreggi for this wonderful unit.

Tim Howden was honored with this year's Millis Teachers Association Award!

"As a speech and language pathologist for 14 years, Tim has worked with some of our most vulnerable and remarkable students. Tim is often "that person" they trust the most and the one who will push them outside their comfort zone. Tim co-advises the Smash Brothers video game club and the Dungeons and Dragons club, both of which give the quiet, non-athletic, and maybe unnoticed students a place to belong. Tim shares his love of soccer with his students and coaches the middle schools girls team. Tim serves as Vice-President of our Association and is there to support all members across all units and buildings. Tim has negotiated multiple unit contracts, attends every Annual Meeting, and is a pragmatic voice on our Health and Safety Committee. His advocacy during our budget crisis, his ability to see the "big picture", and his sincere approach, makes our schools, our community and our union better."

Congratulations, Tim!!
