"Keeping you in the Nest"
2024-2025 Issue #6
Principal's Message - April 2025
Welcome back from spring break! I sincerely hope that everyone had a great break. While the weather wasn’t quite as favorable as we would have preferred, it did improve over the latter part of our time away. Many of our staff and students have experience illness recently, so we hope the time away allowed you to rest, relax and overcome these issues.
As we begin the month of April, we enter into the final chapter of our school year. As we all know, this time will pass quickly. It will seem like a sprint to the finish, with many key events happening over this time. We will host our 50th Annual Rummage and Bake Sale on Fri., Apr. 11. I am told this has been a hit over several decades and the day certainly promises to bring some timely bargains. We will have a short break on Good Friday and Easter Monday, but the coming weeks will be busy. We are just over 5 weeks away from our Gr. 12 Prom. This is a time to celebrate the learning and accomplishments of our gr. 12 students over the past 12+ years. This will be held on May 9. As we move forward from there, we will host our spring concert in early June. Several teachers are busing planning the details surrounding year-end field trips as well. We are currently working on our Final Exam Schedule and will soon be releasing this to our students and families. I encourage everyone to continue to work hard and do their best work as we close out our school year. At this time of year, in addition to planning and preparing for all of these events and activities, we are also underway with preparations for next year. This planning will begin to gain momentum in the coming weeks. We will share information and updates as we move forward.
One other important idea that comes to mind is our school buses. While we only have 3 buses that line up daily out front of our school, this is often a busy zone of our school yard. I have witnessed a few times when parents and students have cut through between buses to cross to the other side of the street to their vehicle. This should not actually happen, as it violates school bus safety regulations. It can be dangerous for a variety of reasons, including when vehicles are passing by on the other side of those buses. I see this as an opportunity to learn. What should actually happen is that those who need to get to the other side of the buses should be going to either the very front of the buses or to the very back of the buses. These areas are considered much safer and are often easier for passers by to see them. Again, we appreciate your cooperation in these situations.
At this time, I would like to take this opportunity to thank you, as parents, for all that you do to support your children in their learning. As a school, we greatly appreciate your involvement in activities and your support in helping us enhance all our activities at our school. At all times, we want to be able to work together with you as part of the learning team. Together, we are able to accomplish so much more and make the schooling experience the very best it can be. We thank you for supporting all our fundraisers and being active participants in your child’s education. If, at any time, you have any questions or concerns, we welcome you to reach out. If you have questions regarding your child’s learning, I encourage you to contact your child’s teacher and work collaboratively to solve issues.
I wish everyone a wonderful month of April. We all hope for warmer weather and all the joy that this time of year brings. Happy Easter!

SH Girls Basketball
The SH Girls' Basketball team wrapped up their season at Zones in Bawlf a few weeks ago. They had a wonderful season, having qualified for Zones for the first time in the past 6 years. At Zones, they took on Hay Lakes, a team they had come close to beating a few times throughout the year, but not quite accomplishing the task. They put in an amazing effort, but just fell short, losing 41-38. This put them on the consolation side of the draw. They bounced back on Saturday with wins over Caroline and Daysland to finish 4th in the tournament. They finished the season with a 14-14 record. A season highlight was finishing 2nd at the Snoball Classic in Vermilion. We were a small team in number, but mighty when we took the court. Thank you to everyone who came out to support us. We wish our Gr. 12 players the very best, as they move onto bigger things in life. We look forward to the start of next season!
SH Boys Basketball
The SH boys basketbal teaml completed another successful season finishing with a record of 25-10 overall. The boys overcame some ups and downs in their season, but peaked at the right time to win the 1A Central Zone Championship in Bentley on March 15! This qualified them for 1A Provincials in Taber on March 19-22. The boys played hard, but just couldn't finish off a provincial win losing 3 close, competitive games. We thank our graduating players Abrahm Bartlett, Lukas Strauss, Cooper Wiltse and Elijah Lechman for all their hard work in their high school basketball careers. We will miss having them next year as we try to build further on our successes of this season. Thanks to everyone who came out to support our team this year!
