Four essential boundaries for effective grading practices: Fair, Accurate, Specific, Timely
Over the past several years administrators and teachers in the district have examined some of the most contentious issues in grading. The pandemic highlighted the district's urgent need to press harder toward a healthier grading system. In 2021 Perry Local Schools implemented our grading reform with the introduction of Douglas Reeves' four essential boundaries for grading:

Perry Local Schools Homework Policy
Board Policy on Homework:
As long as it is properly designed, carefully planned and geared to the development of the individual student, homework meets a real need and has a definite place in the educational program. It is not used for disciplinary purposes. The extent and type of homework given is decided by the classroom teacher within the framework of specific instructional plans.
Homework is assigned to help students become more self-reliant, learn to work independently, improve the skills that have been developed and complete certain projects, such as the reading of worthwhile books and preparation of research papers. Home study assignments also afford a way for parents to acquaint themselves with the school program and their own children's educational progress.
Major Point of Emphasis:
Homework is practice! We understand that all humans will make mistakes while practicing, therefore, practice should not contribute greatly to a student's overall grade.
Homework Guidelines:
Below is a list of guidelines that reflect our homework philosophy at Perry Local Schools. This list is not exhaustive, but includes the following:
- No homework on weekends or holidays.
- No homework that isn't directly related to mastering a standard.
- Homework that can be easily "copyable" should be minimized.
- Homework that gives students multiple nights to complete is preferable.
- All homework will be accepted until the last day of the quarter. (Late work cannot be deducted until after the summative assessment, or chapter test. Students will receive a 25% deduction after that.
- Homework will not contribute greatly to a student's overall performance.
