Cluster 1 Newsletter November 18, 2022

Hello Parents, Guardians, and Caregivers!

Our upcoming field trip to IMAX is Tuesday, November 22. Please remember to send your student with money to buy lunch, or send a lunch with them! We’re so excited!

We'll have an early release day on Wednesday, November 23 and Thursday and Friday off from school. Enjoy the break!

Yours,
Cluster 1 Team

English Language Arts Update

We’re full steam ahead in our book club groups! Students surveyed a large selection of books before choosing a book that hopefully interests them. Students will be reading their novels both in ELA class and at home. They have a reading calendar that tells them which pages they’re expected to read each night. Please help to ensure your student is keeping pace in the book! We’ll be centering our focus on theme with these novels while helping students develop their discussion skills along the way.

Math Update

We just wrapped up our unit on ratios and are ready to move on! Our next unit will be unit rates. Students will be applying what they learned about ratios to convert between units, find unit price and constant speed, and reason about percentages. To get a preview of Unit 3, please check out the Unit 3 Family Resource.

Science Update

🎶Owl pellets, owl pellets, owl pellets! A ball of bones and fur and other things!🎶 Our ecology unit is moving forward and working towards owl pellet dissection after Thanksgiving! Please see the Opt-Out Permission Slip (https://docs.google.com/document/d/1mTX0T_8WWCbRW0Il62_AQACEyym64NBGXY2UpGXlQ8I/edit?usp=sharing) for more info.

We are also looking forward to our field trip on Tuesday!

Social Studies Update

Welcome to the challenging world of early humans, also known as hominids! We’ve been piecing through the lives of 5 different hominids to determine what sorts of environmental challenges they faced, as well as how did they adapt to potentially solve these problems. We’ll conclude our investigations with the study of us: homo sapiens! Next, we’ll be utilizing all our practice as students analyze the lives of a new hominid and create a survival poster showing their knowledge of adaptations.
