Please Fill Out the Education and Nutrition Benefits Form

The Education and Nutrition Benefits Application is important because schools receive funding based on the number of students who qualify for free, reduced-price, and paid meals. This is different from the Michigan School Meals Program, which provides free meals to all students.

For schools that participate in the federal Community Eligibility Provision (CEP), the Education Benefits Form is used instead. This program helps ensure all students receive free meals.

School Wide Weekly PBIS Focus (Positive Behavioral Interventions & Supports)

Our classrooms set cooperative learning goals weekly and teachers provide incentives for individual children and the class as a whole. Students also receive Jane Addams Elementary Super Student tickets when they go above and beyond behavior expectations. These tickets turn into a prize. All staff members have tickets and give them to students throughout the school day.

This school year, we will have a monthly focus for positive student behaviors. Students will earn tickets when they show the target skill and focus. Please talk to your child about each week's behavior focus and ask for ways that they show it at school and home. Thank you for your support in making the end of the school year successful!

Your child will earn tickets when they show how to be responsible in class and around the school.

October Focus: Responsible

Check out our weekly cooperation goal and cheer!

Weekly Cooperation Goal:

Use "I" Messages

In any conflict, it is important that the people involved understand one another’s thoughts

and feelings. An “I” Message is a way for a person to communicate clearly, without insult

or blame, how he or she feels about a problem. It is a key part of the Peace Path process, in

which students take some time to cool down and think about a problem before they attempt

a solution.

An “I” Message has two parts in grades 1–3:

1. “I feel...” In the first part of an “I” Message, a student states how he or she feels as a result of the current situation.

2. “...because...” In the second part, the student states what behavior has caused this feeling.

An example would be “I felt hurt because you called me a name at recess.”

In grades 4 and 5, students are given the option to expand the “I” Message if they choose.

The expanded “I” Message is “I feel ________ when you ________ because it seems

________.” This ending is particularly useful when students are jumping to conclusions

about a situation. For example, students may be angry because they assume that someone

did something to be mean or because he or she doesn’t like someone else. Students are not

taking the time to check out a situation. In these cases, it is often helpful to have students

use the expanded “I” Message. Students may need practice in stopping and thinking before

they make a decision about a situation. An example would be: “I felt hurt when you didn’t sit with me at lunch because it seems like you don’t want to be my friend anymore.”

Important Arrival & Dismissal Information

Here are a few reminders to help arrival and dismissal run more smoothly.
Arrival:
There are three doors /areas designated for arrival and all of the areas have signage with specific grade levels. Students will line up at those doors if arriving before the doors open at 8:30 a.m.

Parents have to have a scheduled appointment to visit and talk to classroom teachers.

Dismissal:
Walkers:
Students who independently walk home or who are met by a parent or legal guardian. These students will be dismissed from the gym doors. QR codes will not be scanned at gym doors.
QR Code (Car Rider Line): Hard copy codes were sent home , if you have not received the code please let the teacher know.
QR codes are scanned, and students are dismissed from the main doors and put in their vehicles. Parents must stay in their vehicles and have a code to participate in the car rider line. QR codes will not be scanned unless you are in your vehicle.
Bus Riders:
Students who are picked up and dropped off by the bus.

Kinder-5th Grade:
When picking up and dropping off your child, please enter the parking lot off of Berwyn going North and proceed slowly and carefully to the front of the building. The arrival and dismissal line runs along Berwyn. If the line is long, it will be easier to access Berwyn from Lyndon. We want to make sure pick-up and drop-off are safe and equitable for everyone.

Please discuss with your child and their teacher how they will get home. This will help lessen confusion at the end of the day. Thank you so much for your support in making arrival and dismissal less hectic for everyone!

Late Morning Drop Off

Front doors close at 8:40am. Please make sure that if you arrive after 8:40 to come into the main office and sign your child(ren) in on the computer. After doors close, staff are in classrooms and are unable to walk students arriving late into the building. Curbside drop off becomes a safety issue once school is in session for the day. Thank you for making an effort to arrive on time by 8:40!

Early Dismissal

We understand that there are appointments and other reasons why a child needs to be picked up early from school. This is not expected to be a frequent occurrence. Early dismissal ends at 3:15. Families, please make sure that you sign your child out on the laptop in the main office. After 3:15, please make sure to follow the regular dismissal process. This ensures safety for all students and does not clog the front office.
