Life’s Finest Brings Our Community Together
On Saturday, February 28, Life School proudly hosted the 6th Annual Life’s Finest Fine Arts Showcase, bringing together students, families, staff, and community members from across the district for a celebration of creativity and talent.
Approximately 460 students from our district’s fine arts programs took the stage throughout the day, representing choir and band programs. In addition to the live performances, hundreds of student art pieces from elementary through high school were featured in the art gallery.
With an estimated 800 attendees, the event was a powerful display of community support for our students and programs.
Thanks to the tremendous commitment Life School teachers place on excellence, students demonstrated exceptional musical growth, discipline, and artistry, showcasing the strength and continued expansion of fine arts across Life School. Click here to view photos of the event!
Annual STEM Family Night
During March and April, all elementary campuses will host their annual STEM Family Night. Always a crowd favorite, STEM Night allows students and parents an opportunity to explore their science side! We are excited to partner with the Perot Museum to bring engaging and innovative activities to campuses. To find out when your student’s campus is hosting STEM Night, please check your campus newsletter.
Building Confidence During Testing Season
As we approach the Reading/Language Arts STAAR test, we want to partner with you to help your child feel confident and prepared. Strong reading skills are built over time, and small, consistent habits at home can make a big difference!
Here are a few simple and effective ways you can support your child:
Set Aside Focused Reading Time - Create a quiet, distraction-free space for 20-30 minutes of daily reading. Encourage your child to read a variety of texts such as fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and drama.
Use Audiobooks to Build Vocabulary - Listening to audiobooks is a powerful way to expand vocabulary and improve comprehension. Many platforms offer free access through public libraries.
Ask “Why?” Questions - Asking thoughtful questions strengthens deeper thinking skills. Try questions like:
- Why did the author include this paragraph?
- Why does the character make that choice?
- What lesson is the author trying to teach?
- How do you know? Show me in the text.
Practice Explaining Thinking - Have your child practice answering in complete sentences and explaining their reasoning.
- Most Important: Stay Positive - Encourage effort, celebrate progress, and remind your child that mistakes help us grow. Confidence and a calm mindset make a big difference on test day.
