Preschool Highlights
Week of September 6th - 9th
Welcome to the first Preschool Highlights Newsletter! We had busy week with learning our school norms, classroom rules, how to be a friend and completed our first fire drill.
The Safe School Climate Committee works to keep the school a happy, safe, and healthy place for the entire community. We say and do these norms each day to remind each other how we can stay safe in school. Our noms are... be here, be safe, be honest, care for self and others and to let go and move on. To branch off of our school norms are classroom rules that we follow to insure safety and fun! All week long we've been working hard on learning the rules and how to be a good friend in the process. Another great thing this week was our first ever fire drill. We read a social story about why and what to do during a school fire drill. We got outside safely to our meeting spot and waited for the okay to return to the classroom.
We made paper salad by exploring all the art materials. The students used their find motor skills by using scissors to cut the paper. Some students glued the paper together to make "lumps" in our paper salad. This activity supported the CT ELDS for social skills, fine motor skills, and creative arts skills.
Our Family Board is Coming along. Please bring in 2 to 5 family photos add to our wall!
Connecticut early learning and development standards - CT ELDS
The CT ELDS is a term you are going to see a lot in the newsletters. They are the foundation for supporting ALL young children in Connecticut, no matter where they live, play and learn. The CT ELDS are statements of what children from birth to age five should know and be able to do across the earliest years of development. Our preschool program follows these standards of learning and development though our daily lessons.
Green Friday Folders - Please empty and return on Monday
Playground
We were approve to use the small section of the playground. In the photo below, highlighted by the yellow square is the "small gazebo," we are allowed to play on that section. This section is age appropriate for our students. If you see in the photo a teacher is on the playscape monitoring the children to say on our smaller section. The students are allowed to use the red swing and we are in the process of getting two other swings lower for the appropriate height. During recess we have outdoor balls, bubbles, chalk and some larger toy trucks. This will take time to get use to these safety rules but already our preschoolers are rockstars and follow these directions well.
