Back to School Night Questions & Answers
Thank you to everyone that came to Back to School Night this week!
We truly appreciate everyone’s willingness to partner with us this year to make it the best year in Kindergarten yet! Below you can find the presentation slides shown at Back to School Night. The questions left in the Parking Lot are listed and answered below.
I missed Back to School night. Is there a virtual option?
Yes! Mrs. Chism kindly created a video reviewing the slides we shared at Back to School Night for anyone who was unable to attend or would like to review the information again.
You can watch the Back to School Night video.
You can also view the Back to School Night presentation slides.
Can we get a calendar of theme days?
September 25th: Field day (green shirt)
October 23rd: Field trip (white polo)
November: Farm Day (dress like a farmer)
December: Polar Express Day (pajamas)
January: Tea Party (dress like royalty)
January/February: 100s Day (dress like a 100 year old)
May: Circus day, ice cream day, beach day, camping day (these are all the last week of school and minimal dress up. For example, wear an ice cream shirt).
Are volunteers allowed to bring younger siblings to classroom volunteer opportunities?
Unfortunately, parent volunteers may not bring any younger siblings to any volunteer activity.
Both my husband and I work and travel quite a bit. I’m worried about the 40 hours of volunteering. We want to help but would love clarity on this requirement.
Each Kindergarten teacher will have at home volunteer opportunities that can help with this. Also, please reach out to your individual classroom teacher and we can see how we can help best.I also believe that volunteer hours are awarded for purchasing items for parties/requested school activities.
Is the SVA logo required to be on white button down shirts?
Are cardigans required for Formal Uniform Day?
Regarding Hot Lunch - are only the hot options free, or are the cold ones free too?
Could you please send the Formal Uniform Photos?
🚨Important Classroom Reminders🚨
🐶All About Me Home Project🌈
Our All About Me page was sent home Thursday last week for students to complete (with a parent)! Students can write, draw, color, and decorate their page to share some of the special things that make them unique. We will share our pages in class to help us learn more about each other and continue building our classroom community!
Please return the completed page anytime THIS WEEK! It must be returned by Friday, August 28th.
If your student lost their paper, click here for a blank copy:
🎒High School Student - Teacher's Aide✍🏻
We are lucky enough to have a student from the high school willing to visit to our classroom a couple of times a week. Her name is Sophie and she will be helping in our classroom throughout the school year. This is my second year with Sophie and she is AMAZING! Our class already loves her!
📝DIBELS Testing📊
I will be completing our beginning-of-the-year DIBELS (literacy) testing on Thursday, September 3rd. If your child will be absent on this day, please let me know as soon as you are able so that I can make sure to get them tested during the testing window. This assessment is a measure to show us where your student is at; it is not something to study or prepare for.
📌Attendance Link✅
If your child will be leaving early for an appointment or is absent from school, please use the “attendance notification form” link below. You can also email me if you’d like, but it is not required. The form must be done. All math and reading work will be saved for your child to get when they return. The link will be at the bottom of each weekly update.
📁Thursday Folders📆
Thursday Folders will start this week! Your child will bring home a clear envelope folder each Thursday that will contain all of their completed work for the week and can also include newsletters, book orders, fliers, etc. Please remove everything from the folder and have your child bring it back to school as soon as possible so that we can refill it the next week.
🟥Homework📂
🥪Lunch Reminder🍕
Please be sure to remind your student whether or not they are purchasing hot lunch in the cafeteria or if they have brought a cold lunch from home. This will greatly speed up the process of getting ready for lunch, and keep students from getting hot lunches that shouldn't. Thank you for your help with this! Also, you can click the link below to check the daily hot food choices.
💟Capturing Kids Hearts Family Newsletter💕
Capturing Kids’ Hearts (CKH) helps us build a classroom where every child feels safe, valued, connected, and encouraged to grow. This Family Newsletter has activities and conversation starters to help build connection and character at home, too! Click the button below to check it out!
🌀Classroom Donations🌈
For those of you that wish to donate to our classroom, please check out our Classroom Amazon Wishlist! Thank you for your generosity and support! There will be a button to our classroom wishlist at the bottom of each newsletter.
📕Miss Wood's Scholastic Book Club📗
In this week’s Thursday Folders you will find a Scholastic News Flier. If you would like to order books for your child, please use our classroom code Z7XMK. Every dollar you spend gives me teacher points that I can spend on books for the classroom. I will submit the classroom orders on Friday, September 5- so please have your order in by then. >>>adjust
The link will be at the bottom of the weekly update from now on.
📝What are we learning?💡
📖Skills (Phonics)📚
We will practice counting sounds and words, fine motor practice with clay, drawing squares, triangles, and diagonal lines, reviewing horizontal, vertical lines, & circles, and assessing our writing strokes. We’ll also work on tracking print from left to right and top to bottom.
📙Knowledge🧠
Our first Knowledge Unit is Nursery Rhymes and Fables. This week, we’ll learn and recite “Little Jack Horner,” “Jack and Jill,” “Little Miss Muffet,” “This Little Pig Went to Market,” and “1, 2, Buckle My Shoe.” Students will complete comprehension activities, explore what a character is, and practice identifying and sequencing the main events in each rhyme.
🧪Science/Social Studies🌏
This week, we’re diving into the world of magnets! We’ll be experimenting, playing, and discovering all the cool things magnets can do.
💯Math🔢
This week in math, we’ll be using hands-on tools to find small groups, compare groups with different quantities, and explore important concepts such as, “Are there enough?” We’ll also go on a classroom scavenger hunt and create picture books to show our mathematical thinking!
📝Writing✍🏻
This week we are going to continue practicing writing our names, mastering the writing strokes we are learning, and working on our fine motor skills.
