- Robert Redford
Good Afternoon, CUSD,
It’s been a busy week, and a great reminder of the amazing families we have in our district. Special shout-out to the CHS families who generously organized the festive Mexican Independence Day celebration on campus this week. We had a delicious staff lunch, candy for students, and lively mariachi music creating super fun lunchtime vibes on the CHS quad. Check out the fun video!
We had our first strategic planning meeting for Portrait of a Graduate this week. We have an amazing team that will take this vision through the next steps. Stay tuned for more information later this fall. If you would like to review our Portraits, please see the link below.
Congratulations to the staff at Coronado Middle School and Village Elementary on being awarded a Silver BPIS award. Read all about it, as well as our expansion of computer science and robotics across the district in the CUSD Newsroom.
Mark your calendars! Next Friday is CHS Homecoming. Don’t miss the iconic parade down Orange Avenue from Adella Ave to 7th Street beginning at 4pm and the football game which kicks off at 7pm.
Have a great weekend.

Ed Tech Parent Series
SDCOE is excited to announce the upcoming Educational Technology Parent Series, a free virtual learning opportunity open to all parents and educators across our region. This series is designed to support families and school communities in navigating educational technology and resources that empower student success.
As our educators, parents, and community come together to connect, challenge, and champion our students, we are humbled by the outpouring of compliments. What a positive testament to our CUSD family!
- Krissy Morrow: My son left his watch in class at the end of the day. Mrs. Morrow called me at home to let me know and offered to meet me outside of school, on a Friday afternoon, to make sure my son had it over the weekend. I am so appreciative of her willingness to do that!
- Jill Collins: Jill has been so wonderful! She followed up with me about my son hurting his thumb. She sought me out about a week after the incident, just to check on him. That meant a lot! She is caring, kind, supportive, and gives helpful advice. She even helped me with my own little mishap. Strand is so lucky to have her. Thank you Jill for being so amazing and compassionate. We appreciate you!
- Julie Ruble: My sixth-grader cannot say enough good things about her Science teacher, Ms. Ruble. From day 1, Ms. Ruble has done a fabulous job engaging her students and making learning relevant and fun! CUSD is very fortunate to have Ms. Ruble on the CMS team.
- Kathy Wood cares for our entire school community and always makes sure everyone has what they need. She has been especially crucial in supporting students with more significant health concerns, and her care has made a meaningful difference. Nurse Kathy always brings a positive attitude and takes the time to connect with everyone she speaks to. She truly goes above and beyond for students and staff alike.
- Joanne Torres was juggling so many things on Monday morning. She took time out to help our son to his TK classroom. That made all the difference on a rough morning.
- Peter Kuhns: Thank you to Mr. Kuhns for helping our son to his TK classroom this morning! Our son didn't have his sister there to help him and was hesitant about walking alone. The help from Mr. Kuhns made for a smooth transition and morning.
Click here to recognize an employee or volunteer who goes above and beyond to make a difference. Those who are "caught" will receive a copy of the positive words that were shared about them and a "Caught Being Awesome" decal. Please take a minute or two to brighten someone else's day!
