VETERANS DAY

Learwood proudly continues its longstanding tradition of honoring our Veterans. This meaningful program resonates deeply with our students, staff, parents, community members, and especially the Veterans themselves—including our own Mrs. Sarah Lee and Mr. Scott Peepers. This year's recognition ceremony will take place on Tuesday, November 11th.

Many of our students have parents and family members who have served or are currently serving in the armed forces, including some who are presently deployed. Veterans Day is more than a day off—it's a solemn occasion for remembrance. We pause to reflect on our freedoms, our history, and the profound sacrifices made by those who placed their country above their own lives.

Due to auditorium capacity limitations, students not participating directly in the ceremony will view the program from their classrooms, ensuring every Learwood student can take part in this important observance. A link to the recorded program will be shared later next week for families and community members.

SCHOOL PICTURES

School pictures have arrived and will be sent home with students on Monday. If you'd like your child's photo retaken, or if they missed the original picture day, a retake day is scheduled for November 18th. Details on ordering retakes will be shared soon.

NOTES FROM THE NURSE

It’s cold and flu season, which means viruses are on the rise! I wanted to take the time to send home a few reminders for school attendance and what to be looking out for.

  • If your child has diarrhea or vomiting within the past 24 hours, keep them home.
  • If your child has a continuous or disruptive cough, keep them home.
  • Temperature/fever above 100 F by mouth, keep them home. Students need to be fever free without the use of medication (Tylenol, Advil, Ibuprofen, Acetaminophen) for 24 hours before returning to school.
  • Signs of conjunctivitis (Pink Eye) such as red, crusty or swollen eyes, keep them home.

Good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses from spreading in the classroom. If your child continues to be sick, please reach out to your pediatrician for further guidance. Our goal is to keep everyone as healthy as possible, we thank you for your cooperation at home as well.

STUDENT SERVICE PROJECT

Learwood students are leading our school's participation in the "Fill the Backpack" winter collection for the ninth consecutive year! This student-driven initiative supports the St. Elizabeth Center in Lorain, Lorain County's only men's homeless shelter.

The shelter provides overnight accommodations for men in need, along with dinners, food supplies, clothing, toiletries, and essential winter items such as gloves and hats. Our students have organized this meaningful collection, demonstrating their commitment to serving our community and making a difference in the lives of those who need it most.

There are two ways to participate. First is to collect any of the above mentioned items and give it to your student. There are drop-off boxes in the school. The boxes will be there through Friday, November 21st. The second way is to order through Amazon. Amazon has a list of all of these needs and the items will be shipped directly to the adult organizer's home. Please click here to help.

Thank you so much for your help on this worthwhile project.

Dear Parents and Guardians,

The Student Council is excited to announce our upcoming school dance on Friday, December 5th, and we need your help to make it a wonderful evening for our students! We’re looking for parent volunteers and donations to help the event run smoothly.
