Contact Improv at Quink 2021

What are you doing the 3rd and 4th weekends of July?

Registration for Camp Contact at Transformus is now open, and we're at about 25 campers with room for more! We expect to be setting up the Pinwheel. Tickets to Transformus are not being sold after July 7th at 7pm, be sure to get them before then!

Tickets for Quink are now on sale, this burner inspired event will be held on the grounds of Twin Oaks and will focus on Community Building and living in Intentional Communities! Camp Contact campers will camp together, and the event has a Camp Contact supported communal kitchen and event spaces, so there aren't formal Camp Contact dues or registration needed for this gathering. There are many volunteer opportunities still open such as volunteer coordinator, registration booth director, as well as help needed for build and strike, please reach out to Darrell if interested in supporting the organization of this event!

Camp Contact is pleased to announce that we will be running at least one 53' container from the DMV to Black Rock City and back! Please join our Facebook Group to stay updated about this event.

Load - in:

  • Saturday, August 12th and Sunday, August 13th
  • 10 am - 4 pm each day

Load - out (aka come pick up yo stuff!!!)

  • Saturday, September 16th and Sunday, September 17th
  • 10 am - 4 pm each day

We are currently looking for a pick up/drop off location, ideally...

  1. a large parking lot that can hold 2 semi trucks and 40+ cars
  2. open the days and times requested
  3. In Virginia (but Maryland and DC could also work)

Please send a message on Telegram to @dduane with any leads.

We will be loading our bins directly into the container, one on top of the other. In order to coordinate access to bins once at Burning Man, we will be printing up nice stickers that indicate the day of the week you are wanting to pick up your bin or gear. This will allow us to pack them away in order of accessibility.

There will be stickers for Monday of Build week all the way through Tuesday (or later) of Burn week. We are seeking artists who would like to make a design for each of the days. Message the DC Container Telegram Group if you're interested in making a 2" x 3" graphic that can represent a day of the week with an Animalia theme!

Bin Registration & Contribution details are at http://container.campcontact.org

We will be collaborating with @FCKEDFIXD in this effort, they are also offering shipping in their moving van!

Materials Call Out

We are looking to add a bunch of round tables to our collection for our new expanded dining room lounge (The Tetons).

While we can source brand new pre-fabricated tables, we believe it would be better (and more fun) to utilize the power of our whole camp to source some more tables. We really want round tables, 4-6’ is ideal. But whats most important is that the legs can be removed for easy transportation and adaptation.

If you believe you have a table that would be a great addition to our collection, please reach out to us about it.

If you happen to find a table (craigslist, fb marketplace ect) that would be what you think were looking for, please reach out.

Ideally these tables will be sourced in the DC area so they can be put on the DC container for transportation to playa. Otherwise, transporting them yourselves or coordinating transport with us in some way is the answer. If you feel generous and resourced to be able to gift these tables to camp, that would be an epic contribution that will be appreciated for years to come. If resources are a limiting factor but you believe you’ve found the perfect table, let us know and we’ll work something out. Thank you for your generosity and support of Camp having an incredible dining space this year!!

Please connect with Alyssa Wolf through the "Logistics and Needs" channel on the Camp Contact telegram if you have found tables matching our needs!

Emotional Support Heart Squad Emotional Support Heart Squad

zoom_out_map

The Village Heart Squad will steward the everyday practices and principles that tend to the well-being of Camp Contact and its citizens. This year, the Heart Squad will not only provide emotional support to those in need, it will also strive to build an emotionally supportive community as well. It’s not enough to just provide a shoulder to lean on, when our community has a culture that feels safe, inclusive, and welcoming we are more likely to Radically Express our best selves!

The Heart Squad will offer Pre-Burn Workshops this summer to foster community

connections and provide CC citizens with the resources and skills to contribute to the

Communal Effort to build a restorative and psychologically safe community. In addition, we

commit to offer Morning Circle Check-ins and 1:1 support at a designated spot around the Tea

Lounge. A Heart Squad Member will always be on duty – this person will signal openness and

availability to hold space by wearing a white sash.

Heart Squad (Emotional Support Team Pre-Burn Workshops)

Check Yourself Before You Wreck Yourself: Burning Man Edition

In this interactive and discussion-based workshop, participants will explore, identify, and discuss

stressors, triggers, and emotionally challenging events that arise during Burning Man. Through self- reflection, honest evaluation of coping mechanisms and behaviors, participants will leave with a Daily and Emergency Self-Care Plan for the Burn.

Virtually offered. Dates will be listed in the telegram group, stay tuned!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Building a Restorative and Psychologically Safe Community

In this interactive and discussion-based workshop, participants will learn about Restorative practices and Psychological Safety. Through group learning and self-reflection, you will understand how you can become more restorative and model behavior needed to promote a Psychologically Safe environment for all.

Restorative communities promote a positive and healthy culture by building, strengthening and (when harm occurs) repairing relationships through social-emotional learning, circle practice, and restorative dialogue. A Psychologically Safe Community accepts that conflict and disagreements are natural and do occur. Individuals model open hearts, active listening, and curiosity that leads to unlocking the best contribution and authentic expression of all.

Virtually offered. Dates will be listed in the telegram group, stay tuned!

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Getting Ready for Burning Man Getting Ready for Burning Man

The #1 way to get ready is to read the resources from the ORG

Everyone might have their own version of what's important.

The top things the core team makes sure we pack:

  • Headlamp with charging source (cables/batteries)
  • Goggles (day and night)
  • Bandana(s)
  • Comfy shoes/ inserts for non-comfy shoes (lots of walking!)
  • Multiple water bottles
  • Travel mug
  • Outfits for hot and cold weather
  • Wool socks (believe me... better than cotton)
  • Baby wipes and/ or wash cloths
  • Salty snacks
  • Electrolytes/ Sunscreen/ Parasol PROTECT YO'SELF
  • Safety pins and Zip ties
  • Extra Lighting for my night gear and bicycle with batteries
  • Day Pack
  • Notebook and pen
  • Ziploc bags for phone/trash/ etc...
  • Sharpie Marker
  • Materials for if I start my 'womb time'. (Depending on what you fancy, sealable plastic bags would benefit EVERYONE)
  • Pee jug
  • If you're single or poly.... condoms... we are all adults, don't play games with your oral/genital health no matter how cute the playa bunny... unless they are fun, sexy, games filled with transparency and consent.
  • Swag (gifts for others)
  • Offerings to the temple (a place where people go to release and find healing, some people bring photos or momentos or art to let go of in sacred ways)
  • Top hat, clown nose, cat ears... whatever brings you joy!
  • Some people wear white on Wednesday and dress fancy for burn night... thats up to you!

Please keep yourself informed through the ORG about what you need and feel free to ask the Contact Collective Core team any preparation questions.

Getting to the Burn Getting to the Burn

One of the more stressful experiences of Burning Man for some people is the logistics of getting there.

Don't fret you adorable A-type personality! We got you!

Here is a list of resources to ensure that you, your stuff, and your magic gets safely on and off playa!

1. Contact Village Express

Details for joining our bus mission are found above.

2. Burner Express!

BE is a Burning Man affiliated bus service that will be leaving both San Francisco and Reno Saturday morning to arrive on playa on Saturday before the gates open. These buses will make multiple trips throughout the burn week.

It returns to both locations Monday after the temple burns.

It will include a stop to a specific bus only ticket booth if you have a will call ticket, all other passengers, must have a ticket in hand to get on.

This service requires an additional fee from your event ticket.

You can find out more information here:

3. Burning Man Reno RideShare on Facebook

People flying in that can't get a seat on a bus can look through the Burning Man Rideshare groups. Here is an active one we found. As we get closer to the burn, there might be a Burning Man 2023 Rideshare group created as well.... So keep your eyes out for that.

Our number 1 ask is to make sure to avoid scams. Video chat with whoever you are getting a ride from and do not have any money exchange happen before hand/virutally. Ask them questions about what camp they are camping with (address included) and other information to ensure they are someone you can trust!

4. Spark Classifieds Rideshare

At Spark Classifieds Burning Man provides a (hopefully) safe and 100% official Rideshare source. If you go to Categories, you can scroll down and find Rideshare. That will populate a list of people looking for or offering rides to BRC.

5. The fancy schmancy Burner Airport

If it is within your budget, you can fly directly into Black Rock City! Details can be found on the burning man.org website.
