Student Council: Making a Difference at MBMS
Student Council Overview
The purpose of the Student Council is to encourage democratic participation in school governance, foster understanding between students and faculty, and promote the values of friendliness, fair play, loyalty, and school spirit.
Student Council meetings are held every Tuesday at 7:00 a.m. and are sponsored by Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Bowles.
Activities and Contributions
The Student Council sponsors Teacher Appreciation Week, food drives, school spirit activities, and—when permitted—school dances. Each year, donations are made to a different charity.
One of the Student Council’s biggest activities this summer was Bronco Bash, an event designed to welcome incoming sixth graders to MBMS. During Bronco Bash, future Broncos had the opportunity to learn how to use their lockers, become more familiar with the school, and participate in fun activities with other students.
Bronco Bash was a great way for incoming sixth graders to get comfortable with their new school, meet new friends, and start their middle school journey feeling more confident and prepared. The Student Council members played an important role in helping make the event a fun and welcoming experience for our newest Broncos! 💜💛
Meet Leaders in Action:
Our Student Council President, London Pruit, is thriving in her leadership role! As president, London leads the group with compassion, confidence, and plenty of Bronco pride. She works hard to make sure Student Council stays organized, involved, and focused on making a positive impact at MBMS.
By her side is Vice President Adelyn Price, who works behind the scenes to help keep everything running smoothly. Adelyn takes care of the many important details and responsibilities that help support London and the entire Student Council.
Together, London and Adelyn make a great leadership team and are helping Student Council have an exciting and successful year!
Claire McGovern, a dedicated and kind 7th grader, serves as the Student Council Chairperson at MBMS. Known for her friendly and honest personality, Claire is a leader who makes everyone feel valued and included.
Claire recently helped welcome incoming 6th graders at Bronco Bash, serving as a group leader and helping students navigate activities, answer questions, and feel more comfortable at their new school.
As Chairperson, Claire helps create PowerPoints for meetings, captures photos at school events, and helps celebrate special moments at MBMS. Outside of Student Council, she stays busy competing in soccer, track, and swimming.
When asked what Student Council means to her, Claire shared, “It’s not just about planning events—it’s about making sure everyone feels like they belong here.”
Claire’s kindness, leadership, and school spirit make her a true Bronco role model!
Broncos on a Mission
Broncos on Mission is a student-led organization that meets every Wednesday in the Band hall from 7:15 to 7:45. It is a place where any student can come together in Christ and grow in their faith. We meet to encourage one another, dig into what it means to live out our belief's day to day. The purpose of the club is to lead everyone into a walk with Christ. Whether you're already walking with God or still figuring out what you believe, you're welcome here.
See you at the pole is a nationwide day when students gather at their school's flagpole before class to pray. On September 23rd, Moss Bluff Middle participated in "See you at the Pole" to pray for their friends, family, teachers, community, or anything they wanted help or support with.

Interview with Coach Bushnell
What inspired you to become a coach, how long have you been teaching at our school?
I wanted to become a coach because I love sports, and being part of a team. Coaching allows me to be able to stay connected to both of these long after my playing days are done. This is my sixth year at MBMS and 17th year as a coach.
What do you think makes a successful athlete, both on and off the court?
A successful athlete is someone who puts in the most work, whether that is drill work or taking the mental reps to understand everything they can about their position and opponent.
How do you motivate your team during challenging games or seasons?
Every team is different, you have to find out year to year what motivates them, some teams you can use words to challenge them to get more out of them, some teams need more positive reinforcement to gain the confidence they need.
Can you share a memorable moment or achievement from your coaching career here?
Going undefeated my first year as head football coach
What advice would you give to students who want to join your team?
Whether you are trying out or been on the team for years, always give effort. Coaches notice effort long before they see any talent.
🏐 Coach’s Corner: Meet Coach Courtney
What does it take to be a successful student-athlete? According to Coach Courtney, attitude, hard work, and being a student first are some of the most important ingredients for success.
Coach Courtney has been part of the MBMS family for 14 years, and her love of sports goes back much further. She participated in athletics from middle school all the way through college. For her, coaching is a way to stay connected to sports while helping young athletes grow.
“I love all sports, and seeing kids work hard and accomplish goals is very rewarding.”
⭐ Attitude Makes a Difference
When asked what makes a successful athlete both on and off the court, Coach Courtney had a simple answer: attitude!
A positive attitude, willingness to work hard, and ability to be a good teammate can make a huge difference. Coach Courtney sets clear expectations for her players and encourages them to work hard throughout the season—even when games get challenging.
Her advice for students hoping to make the team is just as straightforward: give it your all!
Because middle school sports have short seasons, there are a limited number of spots available. Coach Courtney encourages students to keep working hard and always put forth their best effort.
📚 Student First, Athlete Second
For Coach Courtney, success in the classroom comes before success on the volleyball court.
“Student-athletes MUST be good students first.”
Players are expected to take care of their schoolwork and responsibilities while participating in athletics. Even on game days, academics remain a priority.
🎶 What Happens on Game Day?
Before a game, the team gets a chance to spend time together. The players eat, hang out, and finish any homework that needs to be completed. After the work is done, it’s time for music, relaxing, and getting ready to play!
Once they step onto the court, Coach Courtney’s goal is for her players to work hard and leave everything on the court.
🏆 A Record to Remember
Coach Courtney has plenty of memories from her years of coaching, but one accomplishment definitely stands out.
Her team once won an incredible 130 matches without losing a single game!
That achievement is a great example of what teamwork, dedication, and hard work can accomplish.
💭 Coaching Through the Years
Although Coach Courtney says coaching itself hasn’t changed much during her career, she has noticed changes in student-athletes. One challenge is helping players learn how to receive constructive criticism. Learning from feedback—even when it is difficult to hear—is an important part of growing as both an athlete and a person.
After 14 years at MBMS, Coach Courtney continues to encourage her athletes to work hard, have a positive attitude, take care of their academics, and give their best every time they step onto the court.
🏐 Work hard. Stay positive. Be a student first. And leave it all on the court!

SWAT
Who are they and what do they do?
They are an 8th grade only service group. They assist teachers in copying papers, delivering items, helping students, and much more. SWAT has been in service since the start of September and are willing to help teachers and students in any way they can! Over the last month, SWAT students have been seen assisting teachers and delivering items to their classrooms.
Teachers, if you have any questions or requests for SWAT assistance, remember to email Mrs. Hamilton or fill out your assistance form in the library!
MBMS Students Compete for Student of the Year
Recently, a group of students with strong academic records were selected to compete in the Student of the Year competition. To move forward in the competition, students were required to submit an application form.
Students who completed the forms are now working on their portfolios, which give them an opportunity to showcase their leadership skills, achievements, and involvement in their school and community.
We asked two of the selected students, Beaux Webb and Adalyn Duhon, to share how they felt about being selected and what they are most excited or nervous about as they continue through the competition.
Beaux Webb shared, “I was very happy to be selected, and it's an honor to be able to compete against wonderful and amazing people! I'm also nervous about how I'm going to do, and I'm worried that my competitors are going to opt out of this amazing competition.”
Adalyn Duhon said, “I felt very excited to be selected, and I was very shocked. I am most excited that I got the chance to be nominated for Student of the Year, but nervous about not making it.”
Both students are excited to represent MBMS and continue through the competition.
Let’s wish all of our Student of the Year candidates the best of luck as they move on to the next round! Good luck, Broncos! 💜💛
