Beginning of the Year Assessments Beginning of the Year Assessments

Dear Blue Hole Primary Families,

As we begin a new school year, our teachers are excited to learn more about each of our Buckaroos—their strengths, their interests, and the areas where they are ready to grow. One of the tools we use to help us understand each student’s academic needs is the NWEA MAP Growth assessment.

📚 What is MAP Growth?

MAP Growth is a computer-based assessment that helps teachers understand what your child knows and is ready to learn in Reading and Math. The assessment is designed to meet students where they are academically. As your child answers questions, the difficulty of the questions adjusts based on their responses.

MAP Growth is not a traditional test that students pass or fail. Instead, it gives teachers valuable information that helps us make instructional decisions and provide the right level of challenge and support for every student.

🌱 Why do we give MAP Growth at the beginning of the year?

The beginning-of-year assessment provides a starting point, or baseline, for your child's learning. It helps teachers identify:

  • What skills your child has already mastered

  • Areas where your child may need additional support

  • Skills your child is ready to learn next

  • Appropriate opportunities for enrichment and challenge

Throughout the year, students will take MAP Growth again. By comparing results over time, teachers can monitor individual student growth and make adjustments to instruction as needed.

❤️ How can I help my child?

The best way to support your child is to keep MAP Growth in perspective. Please encourage your child to:

Do your best.
Take your time.
Try your hardest.
Don't worry about getting every question right.

A good night's sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a positive attitude are the best preparation!

Most importantly, please remind your child that the assessment is simply one way their teachers learn how to help them grow. We are not looking for perfection—we are looking for growth!

At Blue Hole Primary, our mission is to nurture a love of learning by building a community rooted in consistency, care, and respect, where all students can excel. MAP Growth is one of the many tools we use to help us make that mission a reality for every Buckaroo.

Thank you for partnering with us as we begin another wonderful year of learning and growth!

When entering the new parking lot, please pull all the way around the loop. There is plenty of open parking. This will help the entrance to the lot not get backed up to the light with everyone trying to park in the first few spots. Please use the sidewalk from the new lot to the grass area in the old lot to get to the crosswalk. Crossing at the cross walk is the safest route across the bus lane. We appreciate you modeling our Buckaroo be's by being safe!

Transportation Changes Transportation Changes

All transportation changes need to go through the front office BEFORE 2:00. You can call our main number at 512-847-3407 or email BHPlogistics@wimberleyisd.net. Transportation changes recieved after 2:00 may not be honored. Please get them in early. When we have to pull a student off the bus to get in the car rider line, it holds up our entire dismissal process.

Please do not rely on the teacher for transportation changes. They are busy teaching and may not be able to check email.

Car tags were provided at Meet the Teacher. All car rider parents are required to have a car tag hanging in their front windshield at pickup. Each grade level will have a different color tag to help identify cars in the loops. For safety reasons, if your school issued car tag is not displayed, you will be asked to park and check your child out from the front office.

Car tag must be visible at all times.

Carpooling: For security reasons, if you car pool with other families, it is the parents responsibility to ensure the pick up parent has all the car tags for each child being picked up or a transportation change has been made through the front office by emailing BHPlogistics@wimberleyisd.net

*For a permanent carpooling situation, please contact the front office for a "special" tag.

Authorized persons for pick up: Please ensure that anyone who is allowed to pick up your child is listed in the online parent portal (skyward).

Kid Connection- after school care Kid Connection- after school care

Kid connection students can be picked up through the front office between 3:30 and 6:00. Please do not come through the regular pick up line unless you have told the front office that your child is not attending kid connection prior to the end of day dismissal. If you are in the line and your child is in kid connection, you will be asked to park and sign your child out in the front office.
