Thank you to our P&F Committee and all who assisted with the organisation of our Dance on the Green event! This was a wonderful way to start the school year together and there was a great buzz on the night.
CATHOLIC SCHOOL ADVISORY COUNCIL AND PARENTS & FRIENDS COMMITTEE
As mentioned in our previous newsletter, we have two positions remaining on both our Catholic School Advisory Council and Parents & Friends Committee. If you are interested in joining one of these two key parent groups for 2026, or would like more information, please contact me directly. ST BRIGID’S DAY
We look forward to St Brigid’s Day, taking place Friday 6 March. Please see Ms Campbell’s section of this newsletter for further information.
NATIONAL ASSESSMENT PROGRAM – LITERACY AND NUMERACY
The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) testing window across Australia begins on Wednesday 11 March, concluding on Monday 23 March. NAPLAN helps teachers understand how students are progressing in essential skills like reading, writing, spelling, and numeracy. It provides schools with valuable information to support student learning and guide future teaching. Most importantly, NAPLAN is just one of many tools we use to ensure every child is on track and receiving the support they need.
Our Year Three and Year Five students will sit NAPLAN assessments during this period, on the following dates:
Testing is planned to occur prior to recess and catch-up tests will be scheduled within the testing window, as required. Information regarding these assessments has been sent home today. We will review our NAPLAN data as a staff when it is available to determine areas of strength and opportunities for growth. I thank Ms Dee Campbell for coordinating the NAPLAN testing, as well as our Year 3 and Year 5 teachers for administering the assessments. If you have any questions regarding the upcoming assessments, please reach out to your child’s teacher.
BEHAVIOUR MANAGEMENT PROCEDURES
I am excited to announce that we have revised our Behaviour Management Procedures. Our revised procedures provide clarity for students, staff and parents, promote positive behaviour choices and reflect our Berry Street Education Model (BSEM) agreed practices. Linked to our Behaviour Mangement Procedures are a number of new reward systems, including the introduction of faction tokens. Further information can be found at:

CEWA CHILD SAFE FRAMEWORK
Our CEWA Child Safe Framework help us to make decisions surrounding child safety in the school using nine elements.
These nine elements include:
- Support and Healing: Responding to those who have been injured or hurt through abuse and harm and to assist them to heal.
- Voice of the Child: Recognises each child and young person’s right to be heard and to have a voice in all that happens to them.
- Culture: All members of the school community share responsibility for, and actively promote an environment that prioritises the best interests of children and young people.
- Governance and Leadership: School leaders understand, create and promote environments that are safe, supportive and engaging. They make their decisions based on the best interests of students.
- Policy and Procedures: Structures and processes that are accessible, consistent and transparent. Policies must be understood, implemented and actioned everyday.
- Human Resource Practices: These practices assist our schools and care centres to identify the most suitable people to work with our students and to provide appropriate training.
- Risk Management: Proactively identifying and limiting potential risks.
- Investigation and Reporting: The development and implementation of processes that are transparent, fair and clearly understood by the school community.
- Quality Assurance: Systematic, continual improvement is evident through ongoing evaluation and assessment.

ST BRIGID’S FEAST DAY – Friday 6th March
Next week (Friday 6th March) we will host our annual St Brigid’s Feast Day. Previously this day has been held in Term 3, however, this year we have moved it to be closer to St Brigid’s actual feast day (February 1) when the weather is better!
Please note this is a FREE DRESS DAY. No gold coin donation – spend your gold coins at the fete!
St Brigid’s Mass (6th March)
The day will start with a Mass for St Brigid (9am in the Hall) - all parents, caregivers and other family are invited to join us.
St Brigid’s Mission Fete (6th March)
On this day we also hold our fete, all proceeds of which go to supporting local, state, interstate and international charities. We ask children to come to the fete with mostly coins to spend, spend, spend! Please make sure your child(ren) comes with NO MORE than $20 to spend on the day.
SACRAMENTAL PROGRAM
Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the Parent Information Night at the Church on Tuesday night. Parents were required to sign in, so if you did not sign in, please let the parish know.
There is a fee payable to the PARISH of $50 per child. All children must be registered with the parish. I have sent a list of children who have returned their Expression of Interest forms to me, however, you still need to register with the Parish.
Going forward, I have created a group for each of the sacraments to send information to the appropriate parents, so you will only receive information regarding the sacrament your child is receiving.
COMMITMENT MASSES (Sat 7th & Sun 8th March)
Next weekend are the Commitment Masses for ALL Sacraments. Parents must take their child to ONE of the masses. If you are unable to attend on that weekend, you will need to make other arrangements directly through the Parish (9274 1495 or midland@perthcatholic.org.au).

Throughout the week, students will participate in activities designed to strengthen their emotional wellbeing and sense of belonging.
We will begin with Work It Wednesday, followed by Thankful Thursday, where students will take part in activities focused on building positive habits, resilience and wellbeing.
We will finish the week celebrating St Brigid’s Day on Friday.
Uniform Reminder:
- Students are to wear their usual school uniform on Wednesday and Thursday.

Kindergarten Screening - Kids Speak
Kid Speak Perth offer thorough screening services to Kindergarten students. Their experienced speech pathologists can assess students’ speech, language, early literacy skills and more.
Why Speech Therapy?
Speech Therapy plays a significant role in school settings by supporting students in areas that impact their communication, learning, and overall classroom engagement. Speech-language pathologists help students develop essential skills such as expressive and receptive language, articulation, social communication, and literacy.
Our Kindergarten students will undergo Speech Screening on Tuesday 24th and Wednesday 25th March.
Occupational Therapy Screening - Lil Peeps
Lil’ Peeps OT for Kids, provides Occupational Therapy Screening services to
children at a number of schools. Occupational Therapists registered with the
Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency conduct this screening.
Occupational Therapy can play a significant role in school settings and work to support students in areas that impact on their engagement in the classroom from physical development, attention and focus to handwriting and self-regulation. If students are not supported in their development of these foundational skills, long term impacts may then be seen on a child's learning throughout their school career.
Our Pre-Primary students will undergo OT Screening on Tuesday 10th March.
Sustainability @ St Brigid's
We’re excited to tell you about something new happening at our school — Containers for Change!
Special bins have been placed in student's eating areas. These bins are for collecting 10 cent containers.
If you have a water bottle, can or carton with the 10c symbol on it, you can place it in the Containers for Change bin instead of the normal bin.
Every container we collect helps in two important ways:
It helps the environment by recycling.
And it raises money for our school.
The money we raise will go towards sustainability projects like improving our gardens, supporting our worm farm, and helping us become a more environmentally friendly school.
Speaking of sustainability, Year 1W and 5B have recently started up our school’s worm farm to help work towards our sustainability goals. We will be collecting food scraps from Crunch and Sip in the Early Years for now. Buckets have been provided with labels explaining what the worms can and can’t eat.
Once our garden beds are set up, we will be using the worm tea to help fertilise and enrich the soil.
Remember:
Only put containers with the 10c symbol into the bin.
Make sure they are empty.
If you’re not sure, ask a teacher.
Let’s work together to recycle, reduce waste, and make a positive difference for our school and our planet.
Thank you and happy recycling!
