Hello MHS Community,

As a reminder, there are about three weeks left in Semester 1. Now would be a good time to check in with your student, review the Power School grades, and identify some short-term goals to finish up the semester.
On January 25 and 26th, MHS will hold Wrap Up Days for courses where teachers will call students back through an adaptive scheduler for retakes or make-up work.

This is the email that will be going out to students describing the two Wrap Up Days:

As we get to the end of Semester 1, MHS is getting ready for Wrap-Up Days on January 25 and 26th. These two days are designed for you to be called back to retake summatives.

What does this mean for you?

  • Teachers will schedule you on Thursday and Friday using Adaptive Scheduler.
  • Teachers will call you back in your original Block 1-4 time on Thursday (Green Day) and Friday (White Day). Please do not request an alternate time for your retakes.
  • You may also be called back during a free block or work lab block if you have more retakes to complete than fit within your class retake time.
  • You do not need to be in class if you are not scheduled for a retake during that block.
  • If you are scheduled for a make-up or summative, you must attend class during the scheduled block.
  • Once you complete all of your scheduled retakes for the day, you are dismissed.
  • Students will check their Adaptive Scheduler up to the day before being called back.
  • Retakes completed on the 25th and 26th are your final summatives for the semester. Teachers will not be providing immediate feedback on retakes completed on the 25th & 26th.
  • Breakfast and lunch will be provided
  • The library will be open for quiet studying.

The semester ends on 1/26/24. This means that after Friday, January 26th, there is no option to complete work from Semester 1. Grades close on 2/2/24, and report cards will be mailed home the week of February 5th.

Sincerely,

Jason

Caregiver Group Updates Caregiver Group Updates

MRPS Partners in Education (MRPS PIE) represents the intersection between the Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools and the citizens of our community. Our schools are a critical part of our community and affect everybody. We hope to ensure that our kids get the best school experience possible, and that our schools continue to be a resource for all community members. Each of our district’s four schools has an independent caregiver group, and PIE is the non-profit fiduciary organization that connects and supports the four groups. The mission of PIE is to “support the caregiver groups of Montpelier Roxbury Public Schools through fundraising, administrative structure and advocacy.”

The three main projects that PIE has focused on are:

  1. the Family Support Fund (which provides direct financial support to families in our school district);
  2. faculty/staff appreciation breakfast in the Spring, and
  3. the Fall Festival fundraiser that takes place on the Statehouse lawn.

In addition, PIE is available to support each school group based on their individual plans. We seek ways to enhance the educational experience for the students and indeed the entire community.

MRPS PIE is seeking your help. We are actively seeking board members, and we hope to formalize a high school caregivers group. Please contact Victor Guadagno, our Executive Director for more information, director@mrpspie.org

Jan. 9 Youth Opportunity Forum

I'm writing from the Vermont Council on Rural Development as we work to gather input from everyone we can reach — all ages and all backgrounds — on the challenges and aspirations to inform the Youth Opportunity Initiative.

You’re invited to our next forum, a forum for youths and adults of Central Vermont to share their perspectives on January 9th from 5:30–7:00 pm in the cafeteria of Northfield Middle & High School for some free pizza and interesting discussion of the bright spots and challenges for youth in our state. This will be the last of our 7 regional forums across the state to come together and share their ideas on topics such as education, job training, community connection, youth voices, mentoring, and more. This initiative is led by the Future of Vermont Action Team and facilitated by the Vermont Council on Rural Development. You can learn more about the initiative here: https://www.futureofvermont.org/youth-opportunity-initiative

Please join us and share this invitation widely through your school’s network. We'd love to have youth, parents, teachers, staff, board members, services providers, and others join us for this open conversation.

Thanks so much for your consideration and time.

Best,

Lauren
