🍽️ School Lunch Option for Students Who Bring Lunch from Home
Hillcrest Family,
If your child brings lunch from home but would also like a school lunch, they are welcome to get a tray!
They simply need to choose “school lunch” during the classroom lunch count and then get in the lunch line at school.
Thank you!

HILLCREST STAFF SPOTLIGHT🎉🔭
This year, we're excited to shine a spotlight on our amazing staff — the Hillcrest Shining Stars! 🤩
Let's kick things off by celebrating our incredible Young 5's and Kindergarten teachers who are off to an outstanding start! 💥💥💥
iREADY Testing--
Teachers use these scores in combination with other classroom data to support individual students within the year. School and district leaders use these scores in combination with other information to support all students and improve instructional programs.
In the fall, scores give students, families, teachers, and leaders a starting point to show where students are academically at the beginning of the year.
In the middle of the year, scores serve as a checkpoint to help support intervention planning & monitoring, reading improvement plans.
In the spring, scores are used, along with other information, to show where students are at the end of the year and provide some information about how much students grew academically.
Crestwood Community Parent Sessions start this Wed!
The Crestwood School District is excited to invite all families to our Crestwood Community Parent Sessions, a series of free events designed to connect families with helpful resources, support, and each other throughout the school year.
These sessions are a wonderful opportunity to:
Connect with other families in the Crestwood community
Learn more about supports and services available within our schools
Build relationships with staff and district leaders
Future sessions this year will include topics such as Special Education Basics & IEPs, PBIS & Restorative Practices, Autism Awareness, and more. If you have any questions, please reach out to Dr. Pollack at rpollack@csdmi.org or Mrs. Schankowski at aschankowski@csdmi.org. We hope to see you there as we kick off this year’s parent sessions together!

RECESS TIME!
👋Hello Parents,
We’ve been focusing on school expectations with our students these first few weeks 📚, and we could really use your support at home! 🏠💬
Many students are working hard to follow the rules ✅ and make the most of their playtime, whether it’s lunch recess 🍎 or class recess 🛝.
Please take a few minutes to chat with your child about our school expectations and recess rules 🙏. Together, we can help them grow in the right direction 🌱✨.
We’re encouraging all students to:
🤝 Be supportive
👂 Listen to their peers
💖 Show respect to others
👀 Pay attention to the adults supervising them
Thank you for partnering with us to help create a safe, respectful, and fun environment for everyone! 😊

💌 Letter from the District Nurse 💖🩺
Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we prepare for a successful school year, we would like to remind families that if your child has a chronic health condition (such as asthma, diabetes, severe allergies, or any other medical need requiring ongoing management), it is essential to complete the necessary health documentation.
Please visit the Crestwood School District website to access and fill out all required medical forms. Give the completed form along with any necessary medication to the main office. This information helps us ensure your child’s safety and well-being throughout the school day.
There is a process in place to manage medical needs, which may include creating an individualized health care plan and coordinating with school health staff. Submitting your documentation early allows us to have everything in place for your child.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact the school office.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter.
Sincerely,
Nadine Shebli DNP, BSN

REMINDERS:
We hope your child had a great start to their first week of school! 🎉 Here are a few important reminders to help keep everything running smoothly:
-
👟 Please make sure your child wears closed-toe shoes to school — no sandals, for safety reasons.
-
🍎 Be sure to send a snack each day.
-
💧 Send a water bottle with your child daily to help them stay hydrated.
-
📲 If you haven’t already, please join your child’s classroom on ClassDojo to stay updated.
-
🚌🏃 If you are picking your child up early or there are any changes to their bus transportation (either for drop-off or pick-up), you must notify the school office immediately.
-
🚧 A construction crew is currently working on an addition to our building, so please be cautious and patient when pulling up to the school.
-
🚸 We have a new crossing guard this year, Mrs. Valerie. Please be courteous and help her as she learns and adjusts to our traffic routines before and after school.
Thank you for your continued support! 😊
📢🚗 Please Read the Following Update on Drop-Off and Pick-Up 🚌📍
As we begin the school year, we want to share some important reminders to ensure a safe and smooth arrival and dismissal process:
🚗 Drop-Off & Pick-Up via Car Line
-
Car line begins on Drexel Street.
-
Morning drop-off starts at 8:15 AM for students eating breakfast.
-
Please stay in your vehicle during drop-off and pick-up—this helps keep the line moving quickly and smoothly.
-
If your child isn’t able to open the car door independently, now is a great time to practice and review car line routines together.
🏫 Morning Line-Up (indoor line-up by the classroom doors)
-
For this week, students will line up inside by their classroom door.
-
All students can enter the building for breakfast in the gym at 8:15.
- Students who are in the building from 8:15 will be dismissed and allowed to their classroom door at 8:30.
- If students are not coming for breakfast they will wait outside the building until 8:30, so please plan accordingly!
If you're unsure of your child’s classroom teacher, staff will be available to assist and provide that information.
-
-
Please be PATIENT as we all adjust back into routine—your support is appreciated!
🚌 Bus Riders
-
Students taking the bus will have tags attached to their backpacks to help identify their correct bus.
-
If your child will be riding the bus, please:
-
Inform their teacher this week, and
-
Talk to your child about bus safety and rules.
-
🚶♀️ Parking and Walking to School
-
If you plan to park and walk your child to school, please enter from Drexel Street and park near the playground area. MONDAYS are Garbage days, so please do not park on the street!
🎒 Material Donations
-
If you’re bringing in classroom donations, please place them in a labeled bag and send them with your child to hand directly to their teacher.
-
You’re also welcome to drop these items off later in the week if that’s more convenient.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we kick off a great school year! We’re excited to see everyone soon!
