Special Education “Going the Extra Mile” Staff Recognition Program – New Socially Distanced Format

In pre-COVID years, the Special Education Community Advisory Committee (CAC) parent group asked parents to nominate special education staff members (certificated and classified) who made a positive difference for their student with a disability. The CAC then created posters and certificates of appreciation for these staff members, and site administrators recognized these staff members at their staff meeting, school-wide event, or other venue.

This year, the CAC is again requesting nominations; however, the process for honoring individuals will be a little different. All of the nomination paperwork will be submitted thru a Google platform, and parents will receive information on how to nominate individuals via a postcard that has the web address and instructions. The “certificates” and information about the honoree will be in a digital platform (no paper certificates or posters). A digital file with the digital certificate and honoree information will then be forwarded to Principals for use in a digital meeting. We are requesting that parents submit their nominations no later than Friday, April 9. We expect to have the digital certificates to Principals by the end of April, so sites will have the month of May to recognize the individuals.

Once again, the time and place of the recognition will be up to the discretion of the Principal. We recognize that it may take some planning to invite some staff members (particularly para-professionals or other classified employees) to a digital meeting. Please let the Special Education Coordinator/Facilitator know if assistance is required. Thank you for helping recognize our outstanding TUSD service providers.
