Principal Points

Dear Roosevelt Families,

As we move further into spring and begin to enjoy warmer days here in Michigan, we wanted to share a few friendly reminders to help keep our students safe, comfortable, and ready to enjoy their school day to the fullest.

🌦️ Recess & Weather Readiness
Spring in Michigan can be unpredictable—one day may feel like summer, and the next may call for a jacket! We kindly ask that you check the weather each morning and ensure your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. Please note that all students go outside for recess each day, as we do not have staffing available for indoor supervision. Dressing in layers is often the best approach this time of year!

âš˝ Recess Equipment Reminder
We’ve noticed an increase in students bringing personal items from home for recess. While we understand the excitement, we ask that students keep these items at home.
Roosevelt is well-equipped with a variety of recess materials for all students to enjoy. Using shared equipment encourages inclusion, cooperation, and helps ensure that everyone has access to play.

🧤 Lost & Found Overflow!
Our lost and found is quickly filling up with jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and more! As we head into the final stretch of the school year, we encourage you and your child to take a moment to check for any missing items.

With upcoming events like our Art Show, field trips, and classroom showcases, this is a perfect time to stop by and take a look. All unclaimed items will be donated at the end of the school year, and we would love to reunite as many belongings as possible with their owners.

🎨Art Show April 30 5:00-6:30pm

Ms. Crabtree has transformed the halls of Roosevelt into a an Art Gallery. Come see the hard work of our Tigers!

We are looking forward to a fun, busy, and memorable end to the school year!

Let’s have a wonderful week, Tigers!

With Tiger Pride,

Mrs. Samouelian

GOLDEN PLATE WINNERS THIS WEEK! GOLDEN PLATE WINNERS THIS WEEK!

Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe!

This week our focus was on exceeding expectations when it comes to HALLWAY BEHAVIOR. Our staff was on the lookout for staying on the right side of the hallway on the grey tiles, voices off, hands and feet to themselves, and eyes forward. This type of hallway transition helps our whole building run smoothly and keeps our students safe.

Two classes AMAZED me this week and they were.....Mrs. Cavalier's 2nd Grade class and Mrs. Shelide's Fourth Grade class.

This week we will focus on lunchroom behavior-specifically voice levels. Let's see who amazes us this week. The class with the most Golden Plates earns a PIZZA PARTY! Good luck to all of our classes.

Way to go, 3rd and 4th graders!

Our 3rd and 4th grade students habe showed such determination. They have been working so hard all year and they are geared up. Most students have finished the test. We have some students still finishing up. Please help our Tigers have their "game faces on" by eating breakfast and getting plenty of sleep. A positive word of encouragement can go a long way too!

AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH AUTISM ACCEPTANCE MONTH

User uploaded image
zoom_out_map

Autism Acceptance Month (observed each April) is about moving beyond awareness and toward true understanding, inclusion, and celebration of individuals with autism.

The Purpose of Autism Acceptance Month

1. Promote Acceptance (not just awareness)
It shifts the focus from simply “knowing autism exists” to valuing and respecting autistic individuals for who they are. Acceptance means creating environments where differences are understood and embraced—not changed.

2. Celebrate Neurodiversity
Autism is part of the broader concept of neurodiversity, which recognizes that all brains work differently. This month highlights the strengths, perspectives, and contributions of autistic individuals.

3. Increase Understanding
It helps educate communities about:

  • How autism can look different in every person
  • Communication differences
  • Sensory needs
  • Social and emotional experiences

This understanding leads to more compassionate schools, workplaces, and communities.

4. Advocate for Inclusion and Equity
Autism Acceptance Month encourages:

  • Inclusive classrooms and practices
  • Accessible environments
  • Opportunities for meaningful participation in all aspects of life

5. Amplify Autistic Voices
A key focus is listening to and uplifting autistic individuals, ensuring their perspectives guide decisions, policies, and practices.

For Roosevelt this month is an opportunity to:

  • Teach students about kindness, empathy, and differences
  • Normalize diverse ways of learning and communicating
  • Build a sense of belonging for all students
  • Reinforce that everyone has unique strengths

Please check out Instagram to learn more about Autism and see inside the World of Cub Crew and Inclusion at Roosevelt.
