News from Principal Mrs. Malboeuf
Dear Fairfield Families,
We are excited to share our first monthly whole-school newsletter of the school year!
Each grade level and our Unified Arts (UA) teachers have shared highlights of what has been happening at Fairfield since the start of school. Our goal is to celebrate the learning, experiences, and hard work happening throughout our school and give families a glimpse into what students are doing each month.
Moving forward, you can expect our whole-school newsletter at the end of each month. This will be one way we regularly highlight student learning and keep families connected to what is happening across Fairfield.
A Change to Report Cards This Year
You will also notice a shift in how report cards are communicated this year. In the past, teachers included narrative comments describing the topics and units that were covered during the trimester.
This year, teachers will be using report cards to focus more specifically on student progress toward the grade-level standards. This means the report card will provide you with a more consistent and standardized picture of how your child is progressing academically.
Because of this change, the monthly newsletter will become an important resource for learning about the topics, units, and experiences taking place in your child's classroom and throughout Fairfield.
We encourage you to use the newsletter to stay informed about what your child is learning. Then, during parent-teacher conferences connected to report cards, you will have an opportunity to ask more specific questions.
Our goal is for these two forms of communication to work together:
Monthly Newsletter: What are we learning and experiencing at Fairfield?
Report Card: How is my child progressing toward grade-level standards?
Parent-Teacher Conferences: What does this progress look like for my child, and how can we continue to support their growth?
The report card is designed to provide a standardized measure of student progress toward grade-level expectations, while our ongoing communication, conferences, and classroom experiences provide the broader picture of your child as a learner.
Thank you for partnering with us as we continue to refine how we communicate student learning and growth. We hope you enjoy seeing all of the wonderful things happening at Fairfield!
With Trotter Pride,
Kelsey Malboeuf

BNML NEWS
Hi All!
There are some REALLY BIG THINGS coming up at the library…The Bid Event, a Consuelo Northrop Bailey lecture, and Trunk or Treat!! We’ve also got a Mr. K science class for kids and teens, crafting, yoga, and more. Get out your party clothes and your dancing shoes - why? Because this Saturday, September 26, from 6-9 at BNML we are hosting the To Bid or Not to Bid Silent Auction and a fantastic party! See you there! We would not have our beautiful library were it not for the generosity of Consuelo Northrop Bailey, who gave a significant bequest and named BNML after her father, Bent Northrop. On Tuesday, October 13th at 6:30, come and hear a fabulous lecture about this incredible Fairfield trailblazer in national law and politics. Don’t miss this! More info about her below. TRUNK OR TREAT is coming, and we need YOU to decorate a trunk and give out candy to the little ghouls!! We know there are more Halloween events than ever. Help us to keep our BNML tradition successful by joining the fun (and maybe even winning a prize for best trunk)! The event is on Saturday, October 31st from 3:00-4:30. Decorated cars should arrive by 2:30 before we close the road. Give us a call or sign up on the Trunk or Treat tab on our website at https://www.bentnorthrop.org/trunk-or-treat.html. Thanks!! Come and pick up your copy of The Queen of New York by local author Michael Freed-Thall. He will be here for an author talk and book discussion on Tuesday, November 17th at 6:30. This piece of historical fiction set in New York City is the winner of the 2026 Independent Publisher Book Awards (IPPY) Silver Medal in LGBTQ+ Fiction. We will be CLOSED on Monday, 10/12, for Indigenous Peoples Day. Here are the October Events with all of your need-to-know details:
