Dear Marguerita Community,

Spring is blooming with energy and excitement on our campus! As we celebrate April’s Healthy Earth theme, we’re encouraging our students to take action in caring for our planet through hands-on learning and meaningful conversations. Looking ahead to May, we’re proud to honor Asian American, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander Heritage Month by celebrating the rich cultures and contributions that strengthen our diverse school community. We have some exciting events coming up: our 6th graders will embark on their science camp adventure from April 14–16, progress reports for grades 6–8 will be emailed home on April 18, and we hope to see many of you at our Coffee Chat with the Principal on April 22 and our School Site Council meeting on April 30.

Lastly, don’t miss our Marguerita Art Night and Spring Concert on May 9—a special evening where our students will shine through creativity and talent. Let’s continue to grow, learn, and celebrate together!

Warm regards,

Mr. Kohout, Principal

Marguerita R.O.C.K.s!

April School-wide focus is on the "K" in R.O.C.K. (Kindness )

Encouraging kindness in school children can be both fun and impactful when it's woven into their daily experiences. Here are some practical and thoughtful ways to promote kindness at Marguerita.

  • Say "Good morning" to classmates and teachers.
  • Invite someone new to join your game at recess.
  • Give a genuine compliment to a classmate.
  • Help a classmate carry their books or supplies.
  • Include everyone in group activities or projects.
  • Write a thank-you note to a teacher or school staff member.
  • Clean up without being asked, even if it's not your mess.
  • Stand up for someone being left out or treated unfairly.

SBAC Testing: You've Got This!

As we head into SBAC testing season, we want to take a moment to remind our students how proud we are of all their hard work this year. These assessments are just one way to show what you've learned—and we know you're ready to shine!

Families, thank you for your continued support. A good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and a few encouraging words can go a long way. Most importantly, remind your child that effort matters more than perfection.

Let’s cheer our 3rd - 8th grade students on as they show what they know. You’ve got this!

ROCK Block Class

Mrs. Woodin’s ROCK Block class continues their work on making Marguerita a clean campus. They reached out to Republic Services and were able to get 3 big blue recycling bins for the yard and 10 cardboard bins for the hallways. They presented to each classroom about the purpose of these bins and how students at Marguerita can help keep our campus clean and help the Earth! Keep ROCKing Mrs. Woodin’s ROCK Block Class!

Events and Activities

March Art Day

3rd-8th grade Students signed up to come during lunch time to paint and make origami. They learned about a female artist and her style of art while painting on a small canvas. Some students wanted to make origami instead of painting. Students enjoyed socializing with their friends while they painted or folded paper.

April: Therapicasso (Comfort Capsule)

On 4/16 - 4/17, Therapicasso worked with each class in making a comfort capsule. Students will personalize their comfort capsule and fill it with things that bring them comfort and joy that will fit in the tin. Your students may be coming home with a tin and asking you for items to put in it.

Friday Focus

Tutoring with students from Ramona Convent started in March and has been very busy. Students and tutors both are eager to work with each other. We started late this year and had to end in April as the high school students have many exams and events in May. However, we plan on starting off early next year and continue to foster this “big sister” relationship while learning and building skills.

The PTA would like to extend a heartfelt "thanks!" to all our families for your incredible support! The 2025 Jog-A-Thon was a huge success, and we couldn’t have done it without you.

Thanks to your generosity, the PTA will be able to sponsor scholarships for our 8th graders and continue supporting annual teacher grants, field trips, ROCKstar assemblies, Marguerita garden donations, disadvantaged Marguerita families and much more. As a bonus, students received a Jog-a-thon shirt that may be used as a uniform as allowed by Mr. Kohout.

To all of our amazing Huskies who gave it their all during the run — from our littlest runners in TK and Kindergarten to our oldest in 8th grade. We are so proud of each and every one of you!

Special shout-out: Thank you to Julhead on Main Street in Alhambra for their $500 Platinum sponsorship to our Jog-a-thon this year! Your support is greatly appreciated!

Traffic Safety Reminders

1. Pull your vehicle up as far as you can during the drop off/pick up times. This will allow the cars behind you to do the same.

2. Do not double-park when dropping off or picking up your students. Please make sure your student(s) access your vehicle curbside - not in the street.

3. Present Yourself at the Gate Campus Supervisors and Yard Duties will not release your TK-4th grade child if you (parent/guardian) do not present yourself at the gate. Please remember that this policy keeps your child safe during very busy gate release times.

4. No U-Turns: Please do not make a U-Turn near or adjacent to our school.

5. Do not park or leave your vehicle unattended: in any area that is not intended for parking (i.e., double parked, red zone, bus zone, etc.,)

6. Please do not park your vehicle in any driveway Please respect our neighbors and their driveways. As such, please do not load or unload your child while parked in any driveway.

7. Always cross the street at the crosswalk (or end of street). If your child walks to/from school, please have a conversation with them about always using a crosswalk and watching for oncoming traffic. Please do not encourage your child to cross in the middle of the street to get to/from your vehicle.

8. Recognize our school zone and posted speed limits- and obey all other traffic signs on and around school property.

9. Reduce your speed when traveling around the school.

10. Be aware of an unusually high concentration of children and families in and around our school.

11. Be on the lookout for school buses and children entering and exiting the bus.

12. Expect increased traffic and delays. Please allow yourself extra time when coming to and from Marguerita Elementary.

We want everyone to get to their destinations safely!

zoom_out_map

School safety is always our first priority! Our message to our students, staff and community is, “See Something, Hear Something, Say Something - Report it!” If there is a school safety concern or threat of violence, always report it to the school and police. Each one of us (students, parents, families, guardians, community members) play an important role in school and community safety. Never hesitate to report a safety concern.

Additionally, as part of Marguerita’s Earthquake and Disaster Preparedness Program we are requesting that each child be provided a Personal Survival Kit to be stored in the classroom. Should a disaster, such as an earthquake, fire, or flood occur, there is a possibility that your child/children would need to remain in school for up to 72 hours- especially if access to and from school is too dangerous or unavailable. It would therefore be necessary to have some food and drink to sustain your child during this time.

For more information on needed items, please visit [2024-2025] Survival Kit Letter and Content List

A Heartfelt Thank You to Slade Industrial Landscape Inc.

On behalf of Marguerita Elementary School, I would like to extend our sincerest gratitude to Slade Industrial Landscape Inc. for their generous donation of nine Eldarica Pine trees. Your support has been instrumental in making our Community Day Tree Planting Event a success, and we truly could not have done this without you!

The trees you provided will have a lasting impact on our campus and community. Not only have you helped beautify our school grounds, but your contribution has also created an opportunity for our Husky students to engage in hands-on learning, teamwork, and environmental stewardship. As they planted these trees, students learned the value of caring for their planet and community, aligning perfectly with our R.O.C.K. values: Respect, Ownership, Cooperation, and Kindness.

These Eldarica Pine trees will grow alongside our students, serving as a symbol of growth, resilience, and care. They will provide shade, improve air quality, and create habitats for local wildlife, enhancing our campus for generations to come. More importantly, this project has taught our children that when we work together, we can make a positive difference in our world.

Thank you once again, for your generosity, partnership, and commitment to supporting education and sustainability. Your contribution has not only made this event possible but has left a legacy that will benefit Marguerita Elementary for years to come!

With gratitude,
