A Message From Principal Abeal
The month of May starts with the administration of the NJSLA testing for our 3rd, 4th and 5th graders during the week of May 4th – May 15th. Students will be assessed in language arts and mathematics. The language arts section consists of reading passages, multiple-choice items, open ended items and writing tasks. The mathematics section consists of multiple-choice and open ended items. The 5th grade will also be tested in science. Remember to make sure your child has a good night of rest and has a nutritious breakfast before coming to school.
On Friday May 15th, West Belmar School will be participating in "Kids Heart Challenge!" The entire school will be involved in a 45-minute cardiovascular jump rope activity. The funds raised will be donated to the American Heart Association, which support life saving research and educational programs. If you are interested in making a donation, please contact Ms. Wall at 732-556-2569 or go www.heart.org/schools to join our mission.
The kindergartners and first graders will be hosting Mother's Day Tea's on May 7th and May 8th. On Wednesday, May 20th, West Belmar School will be hosting a country convention, Passports Around the World from 6 - 8 pm in the gymnasium.
The district will be closed on Monday, May 25th for Memorial Day to honor all who have served our country.
Most sincerely,
Anthony

Attendance Matters at the WB!
Why Every Day Matters
Good attendance lays the foundation for a child’s academic success. When students attend school regularly, they keep up with class lessons, build confidence, and develop strong relationships with teachers and peers. Even just two absences per month (about 10% of the school year) can create gaps in learning and make it harder to catch up. We encourage families to make every effort to have students present and on time, because every day really does add up. We need our "Bear Cubs in the Cave"!

WTPS Appoints Dr. David Bleakley as New Superintendent of Schools
As you are aware, Dr. Handerhan announced back in the fall that she will be retiring at the end of this school year. Since then, the Wall Township Board of Education has been actively engaged in the search for a new Superintendent of Schools. At last night’s Board of Education Meeting, the Board of Education appointed Dr. David Bleakley as the next WTPS Superintendent of Schools, effective July 1, 2026. Dr. Bleakley brings with him over 20 years of educational experience, and the Board of Education is thrilled to welcome him to the District.
