Digital Learning Day
Resources and Reminders for Families
What is a Digital Learning Day?
For the 2024-2025 school year, there are four planned Digital Learning Days (DLDs) scheduled throughout the year for teacher planning/staff development.
- Friday, September 20th
- Tuesday, November 5th
- Friday, February 7th
- Friday, March 14th
On these days, all students will learn from home by completing assignments at their own pace. Teachers will have the day's assignments posted on their eCLASS page by 8:00 pm on the day before the scheduled Digital Learning Day. Learning will be asynchronous, meaning students will not have live Zoom sessions. Students who are unable to complete assignments on these DLDs will be given the opportunity to complete assignments when they return to school.
Please check out the GCPS Digital Learning Day website for more information,
What to do before a Digital Learning Day?
⭐ We encourage you to make sure your child is ready for DLD. This will make the morning of the Digital Learning Day smoother for everyone!
- Does you child know their username and password information?
- Has your child joined the necessary Google Classrooms (if needed)?
- Most of our students have done this in their regular classroom. 👍
- Parents cannot join a GCPS Google Classroom. 👎
- If your child is using a home device for DLD, have they logged into their portal and Google account prior to DLD?
- Have you added your child's GCPS Google account to any personal devices (if needed)?
- If planning to use a tablet (iPad, Kindle, etc) for DLD, have you downloaded all the necessary apps(see below)?
Does your student need a device to complete Digital Learning Day assignments?
If you would like for your student in grades K-2 to bring home a Chromebook to complete the assignments for that digital day, please complete this form no later Wednesday afternoon. The Chromebooks will need to be returned to DES on Monday, March 17.
Students in grades 3-5 already have a Chromebook assigned to them and may bring home their Chromebook if needed.
*All students must have completed the BOY paperwork in ParentSquare in order to bring home a device.*
Student Passwords
This year, students have chosen 2 pictures for their password. Attached is a help guide. When logging in from home, students will need to select their 2 picture passwords and also enter in their numeric password which is their birthday (i.e. 09162017). If your student is having trouble remembering their password, you can contact your child's teacher for help.
How to Access eCLASS
Google Information
Google on Personal Devices
🛡️ In order to protect student information, GCPS does not allow outside accounts access to the GCPS Google domain. If you are receiving an error message when trying to have your child log in to their Google Drive or Google Classroom, it is most likely due to a personal account interfering with the process. In order to access your child's GCPS Google account, you will need to add your child's account to your existing Chrome profile or change the Chrome browser user. Directions for these are below.
Google on a Tablet (iPad, Kindle, etc.)
In order to successfully use Google Classroom and all the associated applications on a tablet, you may need to download the following Google apps: Google Drive, Google Slides, Google Sheets, Google Docs, Chrome, and Google Classroom. All of these apps are free to download.
Once downloaded, start with Google Drive and sign in as your student using their GCPS Gmail. The naming convention for a student's GCPS Gmail is: first.last####@g.gcpsk12.org (#### = last 4 digits of the student's ID number)
You will be directed back to the GCPS student portal where you will use your child's login credentials (student number and password) to log in. Once you have successfully connected Google Drive, all the other apps will be easily connected to the appropriate account.
