CSD Weekly Update: February 20 2026

Attorney General Dave Sunday Visits WTHS for the teenTALK Series
On February 18, 2026, Attorney General Dave Sunday launched a series of planned teenTALK events by meeting with Bucks County students at William Tennent High School to discuss the impact of social media on mental health.
During today’s meeting, the students discussed their use of social media, including its pros and cons. Many students shared thoughts on the addictive nature of social media and how spending excessive time on apps can affect relationships and hinder learning.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) was also a major focus of the panel, with many students discussing how they utilize AI products both in and out of school. Some shared thoughts included the disadvantages of using AI as a learning tool and questions regarding what the future workforce will look like with AI.
“As a father myself, I was encouraged to hear from students who spoke candidly about taking their mental health seriously,” Attorney General Sunday said. “As we continue to learn more about the effects social media can have on mental wellness, these students have the opportunity to lead by example and help others use these platforms in healthier, more positive ways. I appreciated hearing their perspectives today, and I look forward to future conversations with students across the Commonwealth.”
Students participating in the discussion represented the Bensalem School District, Bucks County Technical High School, Central Bucks High School East, Central Bucks High School South, Central Bucks High School West, Council Rock High School North, Council Rock High School South, New Hope-Solebury High School, Palisades High School, Pennridge High School, Pennsbury High School West, Quakertown Community High School, and William Tennent High School.

Earth, Moon, Sun & Third Graders
Third-grade students from across the district recently visited the Huf Planetarium to experience Earth, Moon & Sun, a show that explores how our planet, moon, and sun work together as a system. Through Native American storytelling and the humorous character Coyote, students learned to distinguish between myth and science while deepening their understanding of our solar system.
As an extension activity, students learned about constellations and designed their own to take home, further connecting science, storytelling, and creativity.
This experience directly supports the Grade 3 Wit & Wisdom Outer Space unit, reinforcing students’ learning about the sun, moon, stars, and Earth’s place in the universe.
Log College Boutique
Students from Log College's National Junior Honors Society, along with CEF Executive Director Jennifer Schultz, began the early stages of preparing a space at Log College for a boutique room that will serve as a space to offer students resources.
Fifth Grade Service Learning Project Brings Classroom Pet One Step Closer
Fifth-grade gifted support students at Willow Dale Elementary recently collaborated on a real-world service learning project. After developing a persuasive presentation about the benefits of a classroom pet, the students successfully convinced Principal Gill to approve a Willow Dale pet.
Principal Gill then challenged the group to organize a fundraiser to cover the cost of the pet and necessary supplies. After careful research and thoughtful deliberation, the students decided to hold a popcorn fundraiser.
Throughout the process, students worked collaboratively to create both paper and digital flyers, monitor sales, manage inventory, organize orders, and distribute popcorn to students.
Thank you to the Willow Dale community for supporting this student endeavour. The 115 bags of popcorn ordered helped make this project a success!
Stay tuned for the exciting announcement of the Willow Dale pet!

Student Attendance and Truancy
A new state law, Pennsylvania Act 47 of 2025, has updated the PA Public School Code regarding student attendance and truancy. The Act updates attendance rules, especially for cyber charter schools, by defining how they must track attendance for both live (synchronous) and self-paced (asynchronous) instruction. The law also strengthens truancy procedures, which now include new requirements for notices to parents, mandatory use of a School Attendance Improvement Plan (SAIP) for habitually truant students, and a restriction on habitually truant students transferring to a cyber charter school without a judge's approval.
Although Act 47 does not require a change to the Centennial School Board Attendance Policy (CSD School Board Policy 204), this is an ideal opportunity to review important terminology and procedures regarding student attendance.
General Attendance Information:
In CSD, all students must attend school every day unless they have a lawful (excused) reason for being absent. “Truant” or “truancy” is the legal term to describe a student who is absent from school without lawful permission.

Centennial School District Partnership with Bus Patrol
This month, Centennial School District, Warminster, Upper Southampton, and Ivyland Police Departments will launched a partnership with Bus Patrol, a school bus safety program in line with PA Motor Vehicle Code § 3345.1.
A fleet of 65 district buses has been modernized with advanced safety technology, including photo enforcement cameras to detect vehicles that illegally pass stopped school buses. This initiative aims to reduce dangerous driving behavior and enhance student safety. According to the National Association of State Directors of Pupil Transportation Services (NASDPTS), school buses are estimated to unlawfully pass more than 45.2 million times each school year in the United States.
“At Centennial School District, student safety is at the heart of everything we do. Our partnership with BusPatrol helps protect children as they get on and off the bus and reinforces the importance of safe driving in our community,” said Jim Wertman, Director of Operations.
