sn’t May an exciting time of year?
The weather shows real promise for spending time outdoors, gardens are planted, plans are made, AND Summer Reading begins at the Cody Library!
We hope you’ll stop by just as often as you can.
- Saturday, May 4th, we’ll be celebrating “Star Wars Day” throughout the library. There will be craft projects and fun activities for everyone available all day – May the Fourth Be With You!
- Amazing folks from the Children’s Resource Center will be back for their final Toddler Playgroup of the school year on Thursday morning, May 9th at 10:00, especially for ages 1-3.
- Just in time for Mother’s Day!! Fabulous Confectionary Expert Kelly Greene is returning with another opportunity to learn about cookie decorating! This time she will teach participants how to make a cookie bouquet especially for moms!! Sign up for a session Saturday morning, May 11th – this is for child and parent, and space is limited.
- Summer Reading begins May 31st!! If you’ve never participated before, you’re in for a treat! And if you have, we hope you’re as excited as we are. This is a program designed to encourage families to read during the summer months while sharing kindness! It’s like a two-for-one idea – reading + kindness - and it’s very simple! ALL ages, babies through senior citizens, read (or be read to) every day. When you come in to get started, we’ll give you a folder with a calendar, on which you simply mark the days you read. Kindness Tickets are given for each day read, and those tickets are like votes, supporting the two Kindness Projects. There are also special programs, prizes, and other incentives that make it an exciting, full summer in the Kids’ Library
This year’s Kindness Projects are:
- Medical needs child: Sunset School kindergartner Axel Jeremiah, who was born at 26 weeks and weighing 1 lb. 7 oz. He has a myriad of complicated health issues due to his extreme premature birth. He sees a large team of specialty doctors as well as faces more upcoming surgeries. One hope is for acceptance into a feeding clinic so his feeding tube may eventually be removed.
- Community Project: Intergenerational Programming, in partnership with the Cody Council on Aging. Recognizing the value that different generations bring to each other, materials will be purchased to provide activities for children of all ages to spend time with senior citizens, both at the library and off-site. Ideas include sewing, crocheting, cooking, game-playing, technology, and more.
This year’s Summer Reading’s theme is “Adventure Begins at Your Library”, beginning with an actual hot air balloon on library grounds on Friday, May 31st from 1:30-4:00!!!!!!
Be sure to check out the Cody Calendar of Events for information about local happenings in our community.
