WPSIS Family Bulletin
Welcome Letter
Dear WPSIS Families,
Can you believe Summer Vacation is coming to an end very soon? Welcome back; I am excited to return as your principal this year. At W&P Stevenson Intermediate School, we are not just a school but a family. Our commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment is unwavering. We are dedicated to creating a safe space where students feel valued, respected, and empowered to reach their full potential.
In line with our school's values, we have four schoolwide expectations that guide our interactions and behaviors: be safe, be respectful, be responsible, and persevere. These expectations are at the heart of everything we do, inside and outside the classroom. By being safe, we create an environment where everyone feels secure physically and emotionally — being respectful means treating each other with kindness, empathy, and consideration. We hold ourselves accountable by being responsible for our actions, our learning, and our contributions to the community. And finally, we understand that perseverance is the key to overcoming challenges and achieving our goals. These expectations reflect the character of a true Kodiak and set the foundation for a successful school year.
I encourage parents and guardians to actively participate in their child's education by staying involved in our school community. Whether attending parent-teacher conferences, joining our PTO, or volunteering in various capacities, your partnership is invaluable in helping us create a supportive learning environment.
This school year, we welcome Mrs. Newbrook back as a 6th grade ELA/social studies teacher who will team up with Mrs. Shelley, who moved up to 6th grade math/science. Other new staff members are Mrs. Thompson, a special education teacher; Mr. Caviness, the band/music teacher; and Ms. Berkey, a Title I/ELL paraprofessional.
Another significant change is that early release days for teacher professional development will be on Mondays this year. You may need to make adjustments to your child care plan.
We are having an Open House on Aug 27 from 3:00 - 4:00. This is an optional event but will allow you to get a head start on the first day of school. You can meet your teachers and drop off your supplies in the classroom. The PTO is providing ice cream snacks - thank you WSV PTO!
Enjoy what is left of Summer Vacation!
GO KODIAKS!
