Message from the Principal
February may be a shorter month, but it is filled with meaningful learning and fun experiences for our students. In addition to the engaging work happening in classrooms each day, our Grade 4 students will have the exciting opportunity to participate in lessons conducted by the New Bedford Symphony Orchestra.
We are also excited to celebrate some New England pride. The New England Patriots are headed to the Super Bowl, and we will show our spirit with another Patriots Pride Day on Friday, February 6th.
As of today, both the 100th Day of School and Valentine’s Day will be celebrated on Friday, February 13th. While this will be a fun and festive day, we kindly ask that families do not send in any food items.
Looking ahead, our annual Fun Run will officially kick off on February 27th. More information will be shared soon.
For future reference, students in grades 3 through 5 will participate in MCAS assessments this spring. Please note the dates below.

WATER BOTTLES
💧 To help us maintain a clean and safe environment, please follow these guidelines:
-
Only water may be brought into the building.
-
Use simple, spill-resistant bottles with caps that close tightly.
-
🚫 No Stanley or Stanley-style bottles with straws.
-
🚫 No styrofoam or styrofoam-like cups.
📦 All water bottles must stay inside your child’s backpack when entering/exiting the building.
-
Students should not carry bottles in hallways, as spills create safety hazards.
-
Water fountains are available throughout the building for student use.
Thank you for your cooperation in helping us keep Baker safe and welcoming for everyone!
FOOD POLICY
🍎 Food allergies are a growing concern in schools, and keeping all Baker School students safe is our highest priority. To protect children with food allergies — including those that can be severe — we cannot allow food or edible treats to be shared at school. We greatly appreciate the kindness behind bringing in treats, but we must kindly decline them so every child can be safe.
🎉 We know birthdays and special occasions are important! Families are welcome to celebrate by sending in non-food items such as:
-
Books
-
Pencils, erasers, or notepads
-
Folders or stencils
-
Crayons, colored pencils, or markers
-
Small games or playing cards
💙 Thank you for helping us keep all students safe while still making their special days meaningful.
TOY POLICY
🎒 We ask for your support in making sure students do not bring toys or games to school—electronic or otherwise—as they often create distractions during learning time. If a special classroom reward is planned, your child’s teacher will communicate that directly with families.
🖐️ To support students who may need sensory breaks or tools for focus, the school provides a variety of appropriate classroom resources.
⚽ For recess, the school also supplies balls, jump ropes, hula-hoops, and other equipment, so there is no need to bring items from home.
💙 Thank you for your cooperation in helping us create a safe, focused, and engaging environment for all students.
