Eggert Updates 3/13/26
Notes from the Office
Dear Eggert Families,
As we move into the middle of March, we’re beginning to see signs of spring and a little warmer weather ahead. With the changing temperatures, please help your child come to school dressed appropriately for the day. Mornings can still be chilly while afternoons may feel much warmer, so layers are often the best choice. Students continue to enjoy spending time outside whenever possible, and proper clothing and shoes help to ensure they can comfortably participate in recess and outdoor activities.
During the first week of March, our students had a wonderful time celebrating Read Across America Week. Classrooms were filled with great books, spirit days, and lots of excitement around reading. It was a fun way to celebrate literacy and share the joy of books together.
Thank you to our PTO, Mr. Reukauf, Mrs. Witzleben, Mrs. Duggan, and Miss Narbe for another successful Shamrock Bingo. The students and families had a wonderful time!

Grades 3 - 5 NYS Assessment Information
Dear Eggert Elementary Families:
The Grades 3-8 English Language Arts (ELA) and Mathematics Tests and Grades 5 & 8 Science Tests are administered in the spring to students across New York State. These annual tests for students in grades 3-8 are required by the Federal Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) of 2015. Public school students enrolled in Grades 3–8 are expected to take the ELA, mathematics, and science tests administered for their grade level. The tests are designed to measure how well students are mastering the learning standards that guide classroom instruction and are a valuable tool used to help ensure students have the support needed to succeed. The tests can also help identify any learning gaps in our programs. The annual tests are one measure used to assess student learning and compare our performance to other school districts. These tests are untimed and are not used for classroom grades.
The ELA, Math, and Science exams will be given on the following testing Administration dates:
Elementary Schools (all assessments are computer-based)
- ELA Grades 3, 4, and 5:
- Wednesday, April 15 and Thursday, April 16, 2026
- Math Grades 3, 4, and 5:
- Wednesday, April 29 and Thursday, April 30, 2026
- Science Grade 5:
- Tuesday, May 12, 2026
In preparing your student to take the assessments, please make sure your child is well rested on the days of testing and encourage your child to do their best on the tests.
If you have any questions regarding the NYS Assessments, please feel free to contact the main office.
Sincerely,
Dr. Szczesniak & Mrs. Kubera
Responsible Device Use & Our District Technology Commitments
Dear Elementary Families,
We want to take a moment to share an important reminder about student Chromebook use and internet safety at school and at home, particularly as new AI-powered websites and chatbots continue to grow rapidly online.
The Orchard Park Central School District uses one of the highest-grade internet filtering systems available for schools. Websites are filtered by topic and category & content (such as education, video, social media, gaming, and adult content), and our Technology Department actively monitors and updates these filters to block inappropriate or unsafe sites. In addition, staff use classroom monitoring tools to supervise student activity during instructional time.
That said, no filtering system is fail-safe. The pace of change with AI chatbots and new websites makes this work increasingly complex. New platforms are created every day, and some are designed to appear harmless while allowing inappropriate conversations, images, or content. In some cases, websites change their content or structure faster than filters can automatically respond. Unfortunately, there are also bad actors online who intentionally attempt to bypass school filtering systems.
We share this information with students and families at the start of each school year, but this is an important reminder as technology continues to evolve. Our Technology Department continuously reviews, blocks, and updates access to emerging sites as they are identified, and we work closely with our filtering partners to strengthen protections for students.
In addition to filtering and monitoring systems, students are expected to follow the District Acceptable Use Policy and use Chromebooks appropriately for educational purposes both during and outside of the school day. Key expectations include
Using district devices for learning-related purposes
Not attempting to bypass filters or access inappropriate content
Demonstrating responsible digital behavior at all times
It truly takes a village to help children develop safe and responsible digital habits. While the district has strong protections in place, families play an important role in reinforcing expectations at home. We encourage you to:
Talk with your child about appropriate online behavior and searches
Remind students that school devices are for school purposes
Supervise device use at home when possible
Report any concerning websites or content to your school so we can respond quickly
We remain committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and supportive digital learning environment for all students. Thank you for your continued partnership as we work together to protect students while leveraging technology to enhance learning.
