8/20/2021: Continued Preparation for Student Return

Hello Lutherville families!

It was a treat to once again meet many more families this week at Baskin Robbins. Thank you to all who came out!

This week we sent home transportation information based on what we have received so far from the Office of Transportation. There are a total of ~45 outstanding out of ~350; we check with transportation on progress daily. A generic copy of the letter regarding transportation and some highlighted information is below.

In this week's mailing is also a copy of the emergency contacts that we have on record for your child. My apologies that we were not able to stuff that into the envelope with the Welcome Back Letter -- it was busting at the seams! There is also, in this mailing, a form with which you can add/update contacts to your students file. Please add anyone you anticipate may need to pick-up your child and indicate your permission on the form.

Monday we welcome our fabulous faculty and staff back to the building. We are so excited to be together and get this year rolling. While planning preparation have been well underway, we welcome this week as an opportunity to operationalize that planning and gear up for meeting our students next Monday.

Sneak-A-Peak is on Thursday evening! See important information below about that event! And a final reminder that Early Entry Day for 1st Grade is next Friday! Please RSVP if you haven't done so yet.

The excitement for the year is growing!

-Mr. McComb

p.s. for families who recently registered or missed previous newsletters, you can find them here, here, and here.

Medication Forms

There are two forms related the medication in schools. Both are available for you to view or download here.

The Request for Discretionary Meds in School permits Nurse Vita to make some generic medications available to your child at her discretion, provides some health history, and contact information. A paper copy of this form will go home the first day of school.

The Parent Request to Administer Medication in School permits Nurse Vita to administer prescribed medication to a child. This form is available by request.

Sneak-A-Peak

We are excited to welcome families to our school on Thursday to allow the opportunity for students to meet their teacher, see their classroom, and get excited for the school year ahead.

At Lutherville Lab, safety of our students is paramount, and to that end we are taking steps to encourage social distancing and reduce crowding at events as well. For Sneak-a-Peak this year we will be using outside classroom doors to help reduce crowding and prevent bottle-necking in the main entrances and hallways (indoors). We encourage families to meet and catchup and converse, and please do so outside to take advantage of natural ventilation.

School Safety has advised that we not publish a floor plan, so we will have greeters outside to help direct you to the classroom door. Our Special Area teachers will also be available outside to meet and greet your children.

A reminder that we are also trying to reduce crowds by staggering timeframes. If possible please visit between 5:00 - 5:45 if your last name begins with A-M and between 5:45-6:30 if your last name begins with N-Z. If you can't make that window, we understand and welcome you to come when you can, but appreciate those who can support our distancing efforts doing so.

A reminder that masks are required indoors for all students, staff, and visitors, so please come prepared with masks. Also, Kona Ice will be on hand, so please pickup a sweet treat if you'd like!

Thank you for your support with our efforts to keep our students safe!

Transportation - Action Needed!

Another important aspect of student safely is bring students into the building and home from the building safely. Your partnership in this process is greatly appreciated. Please read the transportation letter thoroughly and be sure to take action on two requested items:

1) Completing this survey as soon as possible sharing how your child will get home each day. We would like to confirm this information with you at Sneak-A-Peak if possible.

2) If your child is a car rider, please complete the Car Rider Registration Form (enclosed in the mailing) and attached to this newsletter. This form will allow us to know in advance any families you may be partnering with for transportation or may be backups with whom you'll allow your child to ride home in case a need were to arise. This is another tool to help us better insure a smooth, safe dismissal. There are temporary pickup tags enclosed in the letter for use during the first week of school as we collect forms and subsequently issue permanent car rider tags.

Check Your Tech

As the 2021-2022 school year approaches, it’s time to make sure your technology is in good working order! Please call the help desk at 443-809-4672 or enter a ticket to report an issue with your device or your password as soon as possible. Issues to report include damage, won’t start up, missing charger, etc. These issues could also include a forgotten or non-working BCPS password. This is especially important if your child was withdrawn and is being re-enrolled in BCPS.

The start of the school year is a very busy time for the BCPS Tech Support Team and there may be significant delays if you wait to request help or report an issue. Act now if you need tech support so the start of the new school year can be a smooth one technologically!
