Message from the Superintendent

Dear Moreno Valley Unified School District Community,

As we recognize Student Attendance Awareness Month this September, I want to emphasize an important truth: every school day counts. When students attend school daily, they are more likely to succeed academically, build strong relationships, and develop the skills that prepare them for college, career, and life. Consistent attendance is essential to fulfilling our mission of inspiring each student to think, to learn, to achieve, and to care.

At MVUSD, we are “Powered by Purpose,” and daily attendance is one of the most important ways our students can demonstrate their commitment to learning and growth. Together, students, parents, and staff play a vital role in making attendance a priority.

Tips for Students:

Arrive on time and ready to learn each day.
Ask for help if challenges are making it hard to get to school.
Remember that showing up daily is an investment in your future.

Tips for Parents and Families:

Set routines at home to help you get to school on time.
Schedule appointments and family events outside of school hours whenever possible.
Stay in communication with your child’s school if barriers to attendance arise—we are here to help.

Tips for Staff:

Foster welcoming and engaging classrooms that make students feel connected.
Partner with families to encourage regular attendance.
Monitor student attendance and provide support early when concerns emerge.

By working together, we can ensure that every student feels a strong sense of belonging and has the opportunity to thrive. Thank you for your continued support in helping our students succeed—one day, one lesson, and one step at a time.

With gratitude,

Dr. Alejandro Ruvalcaba
Superintendent of Schools
Moreno Valley Unified School District
