Principal's Corner - August 28, 2026
Squire Families,
We wrapped up our week with our first school-wide assembly of the year and IT WAS AWESOME! The energy these Squires bring to the school each week is out of this world. Ask your kiddo about it and where they are on making it up on their class Brag Board. We love celebrating student success!
Next week, we will begin assessing students in several academic areas. These benchmark assessments give our teachers valuable information about what students already know and what they are ready to learn next. The results help us thoughtfully plan classroom instruction, intervention, and enrichment so that we can meet the needs of all of our learners.
Attendance is important every day, and we especially appreciate your help ensuring students are at school and ready to do their best during these upcoming assessments. If you have specific questions about your child's assessments, please reach out to your child's teacher. We will also review and discuss results with families during our upcoming October parent conferences.
There are also so many wonderful ways for families to be part of our school community! Our first PTA meeting of the year is Tuesday, and I would love to see you there. It's a great opportunity to learn more about our campus culture, connect with other families, and discover ways you can get involved. Whether you have a little time or a lot, your involvement makes our school community stronger!
Finally, a quick reminder to take good care of yourselves and one another. We've had some of those beginning-of-the-school-year illnesses making their way through campus, as they often do when we all come back together. Please make time for rest, healthy routines, and taking care of yourselves. We want our students, families, and staff feeling their best!
Thank you for your continued partnership and for all you do to make our school such a special place. Here's to another wonderful week together!
With appreciation,
Amanda Prehn

New Tardy and Late Pick Up Procedures
Beginning September 1st, parents who are dropping students off after 7:40 will have to park, walk their student inside, and sign their student in with the office team. For their safety, no students should be left unattended at drop off. We ask that you escort you child in the building and take a moment to sign them in if you are arriving past the tardy bell (7:40 am). We will then get them safely on to class. We know everyone runs late from time to time, but we do appreciate a strong morning routine that helps your student arrive on time, before 7:40, and ready to learn with us each day!
In the afternoon, all students are dismissed at 3 pm. It is our expectation that all parents who are picking up students by car or in the Rainbow Room are ready to do so at that time. After 3:30 pm, families will be asked to sign in upon arrival prior to picking up their student. We appreciate your assistance with arriving on time for dismissal and arrival each school day.
Please know that student safety is our top priority!
Lost & Found
Dear Parents: A friendly reminder to encourage your kids to take good care of their belongings. We have a Lost and Found rack at the Rainbow Room. Please come in to recover your belongings. Thank you for your support!

Students without a documented absence or doctor's note (if applicable) will be marked as unexcused. Notes must be received within 3 days of your child returning to school. Use Smart Tag to notify teachers and the office staff of the absence. Email any related documentation or attachments to rebolda@ltisdschools.org – If you need assistance using Smart Tag, email Ms. Rebold or stop by the front desk. Thank you!
DISCOVERY/GIFTED AND TALENTED PROGRAM REFERRAL - DEADLINE IS OCTOBER 10/15
Attention LTISD Parents and Guardians,
Discovery, otherwise known as Gifted and Talented, is the enrichment program provided for students who have been identified as intellectually gifted and talented. All students are eligible to be selected for the Discovery program at each campus. In order to be identified as gifted and talented, each student must undergo a screening and selection process. The Discovery Program is now accepting parent referrals for GT Screening via Google form.
Elementary Form - For Grades 1, 3, 4, 5
Second Graders will not need a referral. The entire grade level will be screened in October. More information to come.
Kindergarten students can be referred for GT testing beginning in January 2027. More details will be shared regarding this process at the end of the first semester.
Transfer students, who were already identified as GT coming from their previous district, should submit the Google form as soon as possible, as the transfer student screening will be set within 30 days of the first day of school. Parents should send proof of their child's selection/participation in the previous GT program directly to the campus GT coordinator. (This applies to families that haven’t already been in touch with the GT coordinator.)
Parents can submit referrals for screening by October 15, 2026. Testing will occur during the 2nd 9 weeks of instruction. If the referral and permission forms are not submitted by the deadline, the next opportunity for the student to be screened will be the following academic year. Spring screening is reserved for students moving in new to the district after the fall testing window is closed and for kindergarten students.
The forms, program information and campus coordinator names can be found on the district Gifted and Talented page.
Once the request is submitted through the Google form, the campus GT coordinator will contact parents via email after October 15th to share pertinent information.
You are also welcome to contact your campus GT coordinator at any time with questions.
