Dear Washington Elementary Kinder Families,

Welcome to the Washington Elementary family! We are honored that your child will begin their school journey with us, and we can't wait to welcome you for the 2026-2027 school year.

Starting kindergarten is a big milestone—for children and parents alike. It's the beginning of new friendships, exciting discoveries, growing independence, and a lifelong love of learning. Our caring staff is committed to creating a safe, joyful, and welcoming environment where every child feels valued, confident, and ready to thrive.

Important info

Kinder JumpStart

Kindergarten Jump Start is an opportunity for your student to get to know their teacher, classmates and routines prior to the start of the school year in a less crowded environment, with shorter days than the regular school year. It takes place on August 17th-20th from 7:55am-12:00pm. Bus transportation will be provided upon request, if you live in an area covered by bus services. Breakfast and lunch will also be provided at no cost.

We are currently making phone calls to invite all kindergarten families to our jump start program. If we haven't yet reached you by phone and you would like to sign up, all you have to do is contact our office at 971-983-3050 and we will add you to the list.

Kinder Jumpstart School Schedule 8/17- 8/20

7:30 - 7:55: Breakfast
7:55 - 10:40: Students in the classroom
10:40 - 11:25: Lunch and Recess
11:25 - 11:55: Students in Classrooms
12:00: Student Dismissal

Family Conversations

As we get started for the school year, our teachers will be setting up a time to meet you and your family in Family conversations.

Family conversations are an opportunity for teachers to get to know their incoming students and families. Teachers will reach out to schedule a time to meet with you and your family on-site August 17th-20th for a chance to get to know you and your family better. These family conversations will take place after students have been released for the day at noon.

Kinder Staggered start

In order for our kindergarten students to have a strong start to the year, we start kinder students in small groups for the regular school year, with half of the class coming on Monday, half of the class coming on Tuesday, and so on. After one small group day, all kinder students come to school together for the first time on Wednesday September 2nd. Your student's first official day of school will EITHER be Monday, August 31st OR Tuesday, September 1st.

We will include more information about your child's first days of school in our welcome to school packet, which will be arriving in the mail soon.

If you have a kindergarten student registered at Washington and you didn't receive your welcome back letter, please call the school office at 971-983-3050 during regular office hours (7:30-3:30).
