Be A Better You
For the 2024-2025 school year, West Elementary will be working on targeted practice on some “life” skills in addition to academics. Every week, we will practice a skill that will help us all be a little better. This week’s skill is EXPRESSING YOUR FEELINGS.
Most people are pretty good at EXPRESSING YOUR FEELINGS but a reminder never hurts. This week we will be practicing.

Help Us with Socktober!
WHAT IS SOCKTOBER?
"Each night in the United States, an estimated 600,000 people live on the streets. This October, we want 2 million people to show that even a small act of love, such as donating a pair of socks, can make a big difference in the lives of our neighbors who are homeless" (Montague, 2021). In October 2011, Brad Montague, the creator of Socktober, realized there was a large population of homeless people in his hometown. He wanted to do something about it, so he researched the needs of the homeless. Montague soon learned that socks are the items least donated to homeless shelters. So... Socktober was born!
HOW CAN I HELP?
This year students in Mrs. Wurl, Ms. Cooke, Mrs. Hriczko, Mrs. Kennedy, Ms. Moretta, Ms. McDonough, and Ms. Gajewski’s classes are organizing the Socktober sock drive for our school. Each week students will share information about how a simple pair of socks can make a big impact in the homeless community on the WildCat News. Helping is as easy as 1,2,3!
Starting October 7th through October 25th, we challenge every student at West Elementary to donate at least one pair of new socks to be given to a local shelter or charity. Bring in a donation and you will receive a neon bracelet!
Movie Night Friday October 18th students can purchase a glow in the dark bracelet for $1 or bring in a pair of socks to support our local homeless shelters!
Crazy sock day October 11th, 18th, and 25th to raise awareness for SOCKTOBER 2024 $1 for all 3 Fridays!
WHAT TYPES OF SOCKS SHOULD I DONATE?
New socks of all sizes are accepted! Mens dark-colored socks are preferred. Socks can be sent to school October 7th-October 25th.
Maybe You Can Help?
Ms. McDonough, one of our 8:1:2 teachers, is running the Niagara Falls, Ontario Marathon in support of Autism Speaks. If you would like to make a donation on her behalf to Autism Speaks USA, please consider sending a check to West Elementary PTA.

West Elementary's athletes needed some new jerseys to compete. And these new jerseys made their debut at the Gary Gaiser Run at Sunshine Park on Saturday, September 28th. Thanks PTA, we sure look good competing and winning!
(We are retiring our old Wildcat jerseys which are nearly 25 years old -- stay tuned for information about these as we may be looking to give these a "second life.")

Attendance Matters!
It is never too soon to start thinking about good school attendance.
There are only 180 days in the school year, and every one of these days matter!
And elementary school is just the beginning of a long educational career. Good habits start now!
Please give us a call or send an email if you are concerned about your child's attendance.
