Re-2 Events

RIFLE, CO – On November 29, 2023, the Garfield Re-2 School Board met for a special session to reorganize after the November 7, 2023 election. Board members Cassie Haskell, Chance W. Jenkins and Fathom Jensen were sworn into their positions. All three are new to the board. Haskell defeated Kaylin Harju in a contested race in Director District B (east Rifle to Silt). She takes the seat of Jason Shoup, who leaves the board after over nearly four-years of service.

Show our teachers and staff some love. Last year, some of our parents were vocal at school board meetings and District Accountability meetings asking to Respect Everybody Twice and honor our teachers and staff. The phrase Respect Everyone Twice has been converted into Re-2 - Respect Everyone 2wice.

Please take a moment to send a note of thanks to a Garfield Re-2 teacher, administrator or staff member to show them you love and support them.

Collaborative Solutions continues to gather information to create draft calendars for the 24-25 and 25-26 school years.

This year, they would like you to share your thoughts using the ThoughtExchange platform.

Please take a moment and share/rank your thoughts about calendar priorities for the coming years. This information will be used as part of community forums and in creating the drafts of the calendars.

Please check back and rank different thoughts to help create a great picture and direction for the CS calendar committee. All answers are anonymous. There are a couple of questions that will help determine if there are differences between grade levels.

CEBT has received many requests to accommodate language barriers for Spanish speaking employees. The Community Portal has recently been updated to allow employees the option to change their preferred language allowing an easier enrollment experience for those whose primary language is Spanish. When logged into the Portal, employees can change their language preference by clicking the drop down next to English on the left-hand navigation pane from the home page and toggling to Spanish.

Did you know Garfield Re-2 School District and GCU are partners? We have partnered to bring you opportunities such as tuition scholarships for Bachelor, Master, and Doctoral programs, professional development, and PRAXIS prep.

Coming up in January is great opportunity for anyone who is interested in advancing their education. GCU is coordinating to give certified and classified staff, and their spouses, the opportunity to start their degrees together in an online community cohort. If at least 10 people start their program in January, everyone will receive a 25% tuition scholarship for their entire Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral program. A cohort is a great opportunity for employees who want to continue their education, keep current in their profession, and set themselves up for internal growth and advancement.

Spaghetti holds a special place in the heart of Colton Niederwerder, a fifth-grader at Highland Elementary - it’s one of his favorite meals. His excitement to share his love of spaghetti with those less fortunate than himself is palpable.

Colton is a member of the Highland Elementary Student Council, a group of third, fourth and fifth graders who make a difference in their community. About once a month, the Highland student council members come together to prepare a meal at Lift-UP's Extended Table, hosted at the United Methodist Presbyterian Church.

Garfield Re-2 staff got to hear from Astrid Emily Francis as part of Strategic Planning Day. Emily is a nationally recognized English as a Second Language teacher. Emily came to the U.S. as an unaccompanied minor. She serves as a professional development facilitator, motivational and keynote speaker. Emily is a member of the Executive Board of The Carolinas TESOL and the author of If You Only Knew: Letters From an Immigrant Teacher. Emily’s focus is to inspire students to dream more, learn more, do more, and become more.

The program is open to youth 18 years of age or younger, or 21 years of age or younger if receiving special education services. It provides up to 3 free behavioral health sessions for youth in Colorado and reimburses participating providers, which are licensed clinicians from agencies and independent contractors.
