Ways to encourage compassion at home!
Compassion
- Model Compassionate Behavior: Children learn by watching. Act with kindness toward others, such as holding doors, helping neighbors, and demonstrating empathy in your own daily interactions.
- Listen and Validate Emotions: Show compassion by truly listening to your child. Helping them understand their own, and then others', emotions builds a foundation for empathy.
- Encourage Perspective-Taking: Ask questions like "How do you think that made them feel?" to help children connect actions to emotions.
- Teach Forgiveness: Model and encourage apologizing and forgiving when conflict arises within the home.
