Hi, SMS Families!

Wow, it is already October. We have had a great solid month of school. The kids are all adapting to their schedules and getting into a routine. We have lots of great things happening at SMS. Below you will find information about upcoming events this month.

One highlight in September was our open house was a tremendous success! Families filled the halls, exploring classrooms and engaging with teachers who shared exciting insights about the curriculum. Students showcased their projects, demonstrating their creativity and hard work. The atmosphere was buzzing with energy as parents connected with one another and learned about the many programs and activities available. From interactive displays to inspiring presentations, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our school community and strengthen the partnership between home and school. Thank you to everyone who joined us for such an amazing evening! We value your feedback and want to make it better. If you attended, please complete this survey.

CogAT testing, or the Cognitive Abilities Test, is an assessment designed to measure a student's reasoning abilities in three main areas: verbal, quantitative, and non-verbal skills. It helps identify a student’s cognitive strengths and weaknesses, often used for educational placement decisions. CogAT testing at SMS will be this month for all 6th graders. More information will be posted or coming home with your student.

Red Ribbon Week is an annual event that takes place in schools across the United States, typically during the last week of October. Its primary focus is to raise awareness about the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse, promote healthy lifestyles, and encourage students to make positive choices. SMS will begin to celebrate the week of October 28 and we will kick that off with an assembly. There will be more information to come.

And save the date for our Pink-out Staff vs 8th grader Volleyball game on October 30.

Please help us enforce the following with your students by supporting our district and campus policies.

• Dress Code
• NO Food, Gum or Drinks allowed in classrooms!! Students will be asked to leave food and drinks behind before leaving the cafeteria. NO GUM ALLOWED IN THE BUILDING AT SMS! Students are allowed to have a water bottle in the classroom.
• No phones or smart devices/watches allowed for use around SMS.

Welcome to your BRAND NEW PTA exclusively for the students, teachers and parents of Sunnyvale Middle School and High School!

In order to meet the demands of our growing Student Body and Teacher populations in the school district, we have formed a brand new PTA that focuses solely on the Middle School and High School campuses. When you join this PTA, 100% of your funds will be used exclusively on events, engagements, and activities at these two schools.

If you are a parent or teacher reading this, we want you to know that we see you and hear you. We know that you are emotionally invested in the children at these schools. And we know that we can only exist as an organization with your support, not just financially, but also emotionally, spiritually, and physically. To be frank, we NEED you.

We are extraordinarily grateful for every single dollar you can give, every single hour you can volunteer, every single item you can donate to our organization. We are just getting started, but we truly hope that you will join us on this journey and help us to grow this PTA into something that will reflect the standard of excellence we have come to expect from our Sunnyvale School District.
