Greatness On The Horizon - Live The Mission
A Message From Mrs. Gabriela Elliott, Campus Principal
Greetings Ravens!
What a strong start to the third 9 weeks!! It was great seeing everyone return from break. Unfortunately, our attendance wasn't very consistent across grade levels. A special shoutout to our 6th graders for maintaining 95% or higher attendance of 95.56%!!!! Outstanding work 6th grade!!! They have earned free dress Monday, 1/8/2024. YEAH!!!!! 7th grade came in second with 92.79% and 8th grade came in last with 90.10% attendance. Let's make a greater effort to be in school please. Thank you parents for your support and encouragement to our scholars. Every percent matters Ravens! Let's keep pushing and growing! Our goal is 97% or better. Every day, every minute of instruction matters.
- Each SCHOLAR with perfect attendance Monday-Friday will be allowed to wear jeans Fridays.
- Each SCHOLAR with perfect attendance for 9 weeks will be invited to our Raven Dance at the end of the semester FREE of CHARGE to celebrate their accomplishment!
- Each GRADE LEVEL that earns the highest attendance for the week gets free dress on the Monday after.
NEW: This year, district policy indicates parents/guardians have 72 hours to submit excuse notes justifying child's absence.
Attendance in vital to our scholars success. Every day gone from school, they lose 7 hours of skills, strategies and support for learning. Help us by keeping your children healthy.
We track attendance daily and make daily phone calls. Plus, communicate with families when children have 3 consecutive unexcused absences, 5 absences & tardies to establish a Loss of Credit Contract. Our goal is for your child to be healthy and at school without losing credit.
Reporting Absences.
If you need to report an absence, our PEIMS Clerk will be able to assist you. Our team will be receiving the email to help assist you. I will forward all of your messages to the classroom teachers so they are aware of the absence.
Email: attendanceeastlakemiddle@sisd.net
Please include as much detail as possible:
- Child's name
- Grade
- Teacher
- Student ID
- Reason for the absence
- Doctor's Note
All notes will be collected via this email as well. Be sure to include details in the note as the child returns to class.
Tardies.
Children will be counted TARDY whey they enter the building after 8:00 AM. Please ensure you are allowing enough time for your child to arrive to school on time. Tardies, will result in lunch detention.
We will resume with power hour next week. STAAR tests will be in early and late April. We have three and a half months to ensure that our Ravens are ready for STAAR and the upcoming school year. We thank you in advance for your support parents.
Online Store - Thank you parents for ordering through our online store. Our first orders are ready and we will begin distributing them this upcoming week. We are opening the online store again for anyone else that would like to place orders. Please see flier below.
January's Theme is Respect.
What is Respect?
Respect is the willingness and ability to act professionally and thoughtfully with ourselves and others. Leaders can deal respectfully with opposition and provide space for both dignity and differences to coexist.
Why focus on Respect?
- Respect contributes to a positive culture. People feel safe, supported, and engaged in the context of thoughtful social, emotional, civic, and intellectual interactions.
- Respect decreases conflict. Respect helps us, and others, to be able to express ourselves without fear of being judged, humiliated, or discriminated against.
- Respect encourages empathy. Respect helps us to understand each other and put ourselves in someone else shoes.
Respect in Action:
- Teach students words have power. How we talk to others, and ourselves, can motivate or discourage, connect or destroy, hurt or heal. We should choose our words with care.
- Create opportunities for group decision-making. Open dialogue engages students in a process where compromise is crucial to making decisions.
- Vary protocols for classroom sharing. Frequently use open-ended questions, partner sharing, and small group activities to connect and promote understanding between students.
Staffing: Please note that we have a new 8th Grade Science. Please help me welcome Ms. Caldera our our Raven Family. We are also in the process of hiring for a new 7th grade Math Teacher. Some schedules were tweaked to ensure that our students receive tier 1 instruction from one of current math teachers Ms. Molina or Ms. Salcido. Thank you for your trust and support of in Raven Country and TeamSISD.
Teacher of The Year! Please help me congratulate Ms. Guereque for earning teacher of the year for our very first year 2023-24! Congratulations Ms. Guereque on this special honor. Well deserved!!
