MoorheadJunior High August 2025 Newsletter

Welcome to the 2025-2026 School year! Welcome to the 2025-2026 School year!

Dear Students and Parents:

I am very pleased to be serving in my ninth year as your principal and I would like to officially welcome you back for the 2025-2026 school year at Moorhead Junior High! Our teachers and staff members have been very busy this summer attending numerous professional development sessions and have spent many hours on our campus during the past two months in preparation for a positive opening for the upcoming school year. We have made a strong commitment to quality teaching and learning, and to providing and enhancing the very best learning environment and challenging academic program for all of our students. In addition to our core subject academic program, we are excited about the excellent opportunities for Moorhead students in our elective courses, athletic programs, music and other fine arts programs. We want our students to get involved in these programs and to join one or more of our clubs and organizations as they develop their leadership and service skills at our school.

Also, we urge our parents to consider joining and becoming actively involved in our Parent-Teacher-Organization (PTO), and to complete the information for joining this fine group. We mail home a copy of the PTO membership form. Active parental involvement is a strong goal for our campus and makes a positive difference in our student performance and overall success. Our parents and community members are always welcome on our campus.

We plan to carry on the traditions for nurturing, educating and fostering relationships with our students daily as well as growing them academically no matter what the setting. As always, our number one priority is student and staff safety, especially in our current situation. I am looking forward to meeting and working with each of you. Please feel free to give us a call at (936) 709-6001 if we can help you in any way before the opening of school. Our counselors will be in our building ready to serve you again, and they may be reached by leaving a message for them at this same number.

Sincerely,

Robert Garcia

Principal

Parents/Guardians:

We are looking forward to a great start of the 2025-26 school year and seeing all of the kids. In order to make sure we get off to a great start, we are asking you to help us with verifying transportation for your child.

· Your child is registered for transportation for next year.

· If this is accurate, you do not need to do anything else.

· If your child will not need transportation for the school year, please email the school’s registrar.

· Please remember that the Approved Board of Trustees Guidelines for transportation are:

o A student must live more than 1 mile from the school.

o The walk to stop distance for the different levels are as follows:

§ Elementary (PK – 4th): 600 feet

§ Intermediate (5th -6th): 600 feet

§ Junior High (7th – 8th): 1200 feet

§ High School (9th – 12th): 2400 feet

Late Bus Registration (Separate from normal bus registration)

Late Bus Registration

Remember to register for Late Bus transportation if you child plans on using this service.

https://apps.conroeisd.net/AlternativeTransportation/

The late buses depart Moorhead at 5:25pm and drop off at designated Satellite locations.

Students involved in extracurricular activities, tutorial programs or after school detention will have the opportunity to utilize our late buses. The following are some important details pertaining to the late bus system. Please read over these new details carefully.

1. Each late bus run will be designated by a color rather than a number.
2. Each late bus will stop at the same designated stops every single day. This new system resembles more of a “Metro” type of system than our previous late bus system.

3. These satellite stops are not intended to be within a short walk to each student’s home, but more of a central place where parents may pick up their children without having to drive all the way to campus.
4. Your student will be given a standardized late bus pass from their teacher in order to ride the late bus.
The teacher will be printing this pass from our View-It system and it will contain all of the information the bus driver will need to drop off your student at the correct location.

5. A student will not be allowed to ride the late bus if they do not have a late bus pass or if it is not signed by a teacher.

6. Also, a student will not be dropped off at any location other than the one that has been assigned to them by View-It which is based on their current address.

6. All satellite stops have been chosen for their safety features (large parking lot for waiting parents), but we do not recommend that students cross any roads or try to walk home from Satellite stops due to dangerous traffic conditions or other dangers that walking home may pose.
7. These satellite spots are subject to change. If for some reason there is a change you will be notified via phone and/or email.

Moorhead Electronics Policy

All devices, including phones, must be turned off and put away the rest of the day during the hours of 8:25 a.m. to 4:05 p.m. Vibrate is not turned off. Headphones, iPods, and all other devices should also be put away and may not be visible.

The Governor signed HB 1481 into law. Texas House Bill 1481 says that student use of personal electronic devices, such as cell phones, personal iPad, etc. is prohibited during instructional time. The CISD School Board has adopted a policy supporting HB 1481 stating electronic devices will be prohibited for the entire day. Electronics should be off and away for the entire school day. This means once students arrive on campus they must put the electronics away. This is in the hallways, in the classrooms, and during lunch.

Please do not call or text your child at school. We ask that you contact the front desk and we will deliver the message to your child. Keep in mind that every classroom in the school has a phone that your child can use.

Students bring electronic devices to school at their own risk. The school is not responsible for lost or stolen electronic devices, but we will do our best to help your child locate their device in the event of loss or theft.

Back to school shopping reminders

The following outline shall serve as a guide for junior high school students. However, “appropriateness of dress and appearance” will be determined and enforced by the administration on an individual basis. Administrators have the final decision regarding appropriateness of dress.

3. No sheer or see through garments (including see-through laced clothing) can be worn if the undergarment is visible.

4. All garments including shorts, skirts, and dresses must be an appropriate and modest length. No skin may show more than 4 inches above the knee.

5. Holes or tears above the knee are allowed on jeans. No holes above mid-thigh. There should be no holes high enough that it would be considered immodest. Leggings may be worn under jeans to cover skin on holes above mid-thigh. Staff have the discretion to ask a student to change clothing.

New Parent Portal Information

We will be opening the new Parent Portal. Inside the portal parents will be able to access Parent Access, Canvas, SeeSaw, and a couple of other Icons so that all the information you need is in one place. We hope that this will help with communication and the ability for parents to help their child.

We are looking forward to a great school year. In an effort to help our parents, we are moving to a Parent Portal for parents to access information about their child. You will login similar to the way your child does for school (similar to the SSO) to access school information. All parents/guardians will need to enroll to create an account. You will need the email address that is in your child’s record. Once you enter the email, you will be prompted to create a password.

Please click Parent Portal Directions for instructions or go to Conroe ISD Webpage then Parents/Students to access the link to the Parent Portal.

We hope that you enjoy this transition to a new and convenient platform.
